My 15yo patterdale is starting to get a bit arthritic in her legs

Any sources of any supplements or anti inflammatory medication I can get such as
Rimadyl for example.

Shes in great fettle otherwise but shes starting to have a weird gait especially day after a long(for her) walk. She'd happily still do 4 miles in the cool but next day she's a bit subdued

Shes tough and wont stop being active and if I could help with some pain relief I'd be much happier!

Metacam keeps my German Shepherd Jamie going, she's an old girl now but still gets zoomies when there's a squeaky ball around

No, it was fixed within days.

I have cannabis oil with good success of my border terrier. He also likes the taste so it’s easy for him to take.

@drac ta interesting. CBd oil I've always regarded as a touch of snake oil/
Placebo but not sure why?

Yes we get it from the vet, AFAIK it is prescription only but it certainly does the job. If we ever run out and she goes a few days without she is noticeably stiffer and slows down a bit.

Not sure dogs are susceptible to the placebo effect 🙂

Whether she'll go all day or not you should probably reduce that mileage down if it's giving her pain regardless of medication.

My little Parsons had arthritis.
Vet recommended salmon oil - some say krill is better - and Dasuquin.
I gave her green lipped muscle extract.
Tried other things too including Celedrin, MSM and CBD oil.
I don't know if any of it helped really.
What I wish I had done is buy her those heat pads like these:
https://www.expresschemist.co.uk/Cura-Heat-Arthritis-Pain-for-Knee.html
I got her a Wheatys bag for the microwave but they are not very good.
Also, I wish i'd have tried a heat pad for dogs, they are basically electric blankets.
Short (20min) walks few times a day was recommended too and puzzle toys to keep her from getting bored.
Hope it helps, it's hard seeing your dog struggle with arthritis, especially when they still want to be the active little terriers they always were.
Mine had laser therapy and hydrotherapy too. Not sure how effective that was. Hydrotherapy is not much fun for them either. Acupuncture might have been better.

I have, shes on short easy walks and I don't drag her round some days she wont stop other days we'll do 500yrds and in the same time. I make sure shes only doing what she wants

Also got a buddy rider and a backpack so shes out with us as much as possible and not left at home.

I'll speak to my vets I've just moved and I've not been in the new place yet.

Old vet was always impressed with her health. Shes not overweight either (wish I could say the same😂)

^^^^^^
Just be careful you are not leaving it up to her to judge how much she wants to do.
Set a maximum time and if she wants to do less, that's fine, but not more.
She won't be thinking about how overdoing it today could have consequences tomorrow.

Turmeric and black pepper is a common and well regarded natural anti inflammatory. I can't remember the exact details but it worked wonders on our last dog. He couldn't have metacam due to an interaction with something else.

If you're happy to do some googling and some messing about in the kitchen, plus introduce it in very small amounts it can be great.

As @Onzadog says. Google golden paste. When my Staffy got arthritis it really helped. Turmeric, coconut oil and black pepper. Made it up into a paste and fed him a bit daily.

I've known Yumove supplements to work quite well sometimes.

My lab gets cbd oil, joint tablets off amazon with glucosamine, condrotin, turmeric and boswelia and regular massages from us. She started to get bad aged about 9 to the point she was yelping and jumping up from her bed. She's nearly 12 now and although she walks a bit funny and clearly gets stiff she doesn't seem to be in pain and does occasional 7 or 8 mile walks. No ball throwing any more as it's too jaring when she hurls herself at the ball and we are careful not to let her jump down from anything too high. She also has a memory foam mattress.

So been the vet and we're on anti inflammatory injections 40 quid a month. Vets happy with her says shes just a touch stiff. So if they help belting happy with that for the pooch.

Gonna try 3months n see how she is.

Anti inflammatory from the chemist would be a lot less that £40
Diclofenac in a low dose would work

Edit to add I’m used to very big dogs , so it would be a very low dose.
