Mrs has treated wrightydog with a flea treatment on the back of his neck. Seems to have knocked him for 6. Normal?
Never done it to any of ours, not a vet tho.
Previous cat we had , tried some flea treatment on her, she went balistic, running and yelping etc, washed her with clean warm water, and she recovered thankfully.
Not affected him in anyway like that. Just very sleepy. He is getting a lot of exercise at the moment though as trying to get him back up to fitness after having his toe off.
What make of flea treatment? Could it just be coincidence. It is supposed to be applied where they can't get to it to lick it off I've back of nape of neck normally.
If in doubt I'd personally go to the vets with the product and the pooch in case it's been poisoned some other way.
Just a thought have you been paw cleaning after walks with salt down on roads and footpaths?
His walk finishes with a good 20 mins in the fields so the paw wash isnt a problem. He's had the treatment before and has been OK but this time seems very quiet. Will keep an eye on him over the next few hours.
Don't want to unduly alarm you, but was it Bob Martin stuff?
Its known for causing extreme reactions in some animals, my next door neighbour lost their shitzu through using it.
If in doubt get him to a vet.
Hope I'm wrong.
we treat our cats with a worm, flea and tick mix on the back of the neck, their energy drops for 24 hrs. We are used to this now, bit of a worry first time around but the pattern is repeated and they are chipper the next day
Hth
How do you treat worms by applying to the skin??
Skids - some brands of sin-applied treatments absorb into the bloodstream to work.
What Tom said. With our cats it's a leather glove day to get the stuff against the skin, not just on the fur, but it does seem to work
Amitraz is the only one I can think of that has a noted side effect of signs of sedation in dogs, but its only in a limited number of flea/tick treatments.
What was the name of the product you used?
Frontline is the only tick and flea treatment I would use. Bob Martins stuff is rubbish.
