Thinking of making a trip over there, anyone bought a car there? What are they like?

I've read bad things about CarCraft/WeBuyAnyCar, but Car Giant seems to be ok?

Not looking for anything special, just a petrol mondeo/focus type thing with room for bikes.

I've used them in the past with no real issues.

They won't budge on the price, the price on the screen is what you pay. Their trade in prices are pretty poor and the only test drive you'll get is a quick run about the industrial estate they're based on, at least it used to be!

Went and had a look a few years ago. Deeply underwhelmed. A lot of the cars looked like they were unloved fleet returns or trade ins - lots of little cosmetic niggles. The prices on the vehicles I looked at weren't anything special, and the test drive was a joke - maybe 3 minutes round the industrial estate, and I didn't get out of 2nd gear.

Have visited a couple of times, mates have bought from there.

Remarkably pressure-free (unlike Carcraft, etc), they were happy to give me keys to cars I wanted to look at so I could look them over, check out boot space, etc. Lots are ex-lease and they don't seem to put a huge effort into preparing them beyond a good clean, they're all as they came so expect stonechips and the odd carpark scrape on higher mileage ones. They're cheap enough though that you can spend a few hundred with a SMART repair place to get it perfect if you wanted. If anything's missing then don't expect it to be there after you've handed over your money.

As said, don't expect any haggling, and they'll try to sell the usual finance, packages of aftercare etc (as every main dealer does now too) but no probs if you just want to pay and go.

A mate had a small problem with his a few weeks after buying and they were pretty good with resolving it for him.

Largely as described above.. large stock, short test drive, no negotiation on price.. no hard sell on the car itself but lots on various insurance/warranty products once I'd agreed to buy.

Some good prices depending on what you are looking for - I got mine for a good couple of grand cheaper than elsewhere..

I bought a Galaxy from them a few years ago. I had sold my previous car privately so had no need for finance or a p/ex.

My expereince was faily positive, they have lots of stock, many ex fleet but they also have a lot of low mileage ex motabilty cars. It`s a fairly no thrills set up, some of the cars still have minor damage, rather than being fixed first, they let you have a very quick test drive and thats about it.

Allow plenty of time, once you have selected your car they send you to as they send you to another sales person who will try to flog you their warranty.Even if you employ your best saying no tactics this person is fairly hard sell, so stick to your guns and keep telling them that you can find a better warranty deal online.

They are very much a pile it high ,sell it cheap type of concern, but I had no problems with the car I bought and they were cheaper than anywhere else for what I wanted.

A good place to go if you want a run of the mill hatchback ,less if you are looking for something exotic.

Bought my Seat Leon from them a few years ago. Hassle free and it was a decent car, but in hindsight I think I paid more than it was worth.

Sounds like its worth a trip, i'm not too fussed about minor cosmetic stuff . I've wasted a couple of weekends looking at cars at local used car dealers (can't find too much for sale privately??) only to find out theres missing history or its in bad condition, engine warnings lights on etc.

Motorpoint are reasonable - you can search stock online and I think Chingford will be the nearest branch to you
