Wondering if anyone has any experience of, or recommendations for professionals who know what they’re doing, in the case of:

A US citizen who is self employed and resident in the UK. Both the UK and USA require taxes - anyone done this efficiently so you don’t end up paying more than you would if you were in one country or the other?

A US citizen who is resident in the UK and part of the NHS, but visiting the USA and other places in the world. Anyone managed to get travel insurance to cover trips to the USA and elsewhere in the world? Ie, not having to maintain US healthcare cover for the sake of occasional return trips.

Ta!

I'm a UK national with US residency, and my late wife was a US national living in the UK for 17 years so have some knowledge (and on the IRS books for taxes!).  Happy to discuss my experiences.

I'd have a poke around on the Bogleheads forum:

Someone there can probably point you in the right direction (US centric)

My wife (US national living in UK) uses Trowbridge Global Tax LLP to handle her annual US returns & FBAR form. Good service, not fantastically cheap, but saves money in the long run through avoiding double taxation & penalties. Worldwide travel insurance should cover the trips to US, but check the T&C's carefully for exclusions & limitations on the frequency & length of visits.

Not sure if it applies to US residents living overseas but I have to have a valid US address for certain financial matters.  I have a US company to do my FBAR but once I went through the pain of getting it set up with both UK & US earnings and investments, subsequent filings should be easier. Most annoying thing was that UK reporting of funds from your provider didn't always accord with how the USA forms wanted your data.

My wife did get regular travel insurance whilst living in the UK although fortunately we never had to use it. Just be prepared to demonstrate to your insurer that you are resident in the UK if you have a claim. you know how they like to wriggle out of a payout!

And check the NHS thing,  I know my wife had limited recourse to public health when she first came over but that was some time ago and before we were married.
