Need an empty house rewiring fairly quickly- should be a straightforward job, but only managed to get one quote locally so far, and that took them over two weeks to produce and was jawdroppingly expensive- everyone seems to be too busy, not bothering to return calls, booked until September etc.

Is this the norm, or likely to be a local bubble?

My mate retrained as a spark a couple of years ago, he's hardly had a day off since.

What sort of figure have you been quoted?  The sparks I know hate doing rewires as its so messy so they quote high to not get the job.  £2-3K if they have to do all the chasing?

Down here in the South-East I had quotes from about 4 - 8k +VAT a few years back. Depending on where you are, 5.2k may not be a terrible quote!

You are competing with north London jobs then! Hence the expense.

When you say rewire is that quote just for the first fix or including the second? If second aswell using existing fittings or does the quote include for new fittings?

Look for electricians in the Midlands. Northants/Leics could travel in an hour or so and may be somewhat cheaper
