Just discovered a bees nest in the lawn after my dog got stung on the nose. We ha e two kids under 5 and friends kids coming over on Sunday. Any tips? I don’t really want to hurt them but also don’t want child carnage…
At the moment I am thinking mini fence…but seems like quite a Lot of work for what is hopefully temporary…
Call your local bee keeper. They will want it and come asap.
If it looks like swarming, chuck a cardboard box over until the beekeeper arrives.
Sure its a nest and not individual bees?
Leave it alone?
Bees aren't normally aggressive, they'll sting as a last resort. Teach the kids likewise.
If you want rid, find a local beekeeper.
Leave it alone?
They'll probably move on at some point.
Leve it along. if they are in the lawn unlikely to be honey bees IIRC
Arm each child with a Laura Ashley cushion to gently fend them off.
Leave it and teach the kids. We've got several around the garden, my son has had it drummed into him that they won't bother you if you don't bother them, and to wear shoes in the garden. Break one of these rules at your own peril!
Bee numbers are dwindling, we need them. Wonderful creatures.
Let it be unless the kids are allergic to bees sting.
Definitely not honey bees. Laura Ashley cushions it is
Let it be...
I'll give you a mini rofl for that one 🙂
Leave it and educate kids to leave it. They will be either miner bees or bumblebees, the nests aren't normally large and they won't sting unless they feel threatened. From Mrs stretch who keeps bees.

My view is that how can children grow up without being stung by bees or fire ants or whatever insects?
I can still remember the day as a kid I was messing around black "miniature" bullet ant and teasing it but all of a sudden I could hear a "click" sound from the pincers (not sure what it was called but it's big jaw) ... yes, it was hanging on my finger. All I can say is that bee sting has no comparison. Taught me a good lesson not to mess with it. LOL!
Leave it I've had them in my summer boots in the porch my wellys the year before they are remarkably chilled around humans.
I was lucky enough to see a nest spilt/quean move this year it was amazing the whole side of the gable wall was was moving within 10 minutes new nest hole found and bees happy.
First identify whether they are wild, there might be a local bee keeper trying to find them, or if honey bees they will likely come get them anyway..arrange for when kids are present, kids love dangerous stuff like that, you will go down as the best party ever.
Honey bees are the skinny ones without black and yellow stripes, wild bees are mostly proper bumble bee looking, but some are quite brown..but still bumbly.
Like the idea of educating kids, cardboard box over saying DANGER SCARY BEES is tempting, that would ramp up the excitement but I think CAREFUL NICE BEES LIVE HERE might be more educational, make a few holes for them to get in and out then give then names..am I getting to into this?...wild bees generally don't hang around long.
Put a couple of large plantin pots or a bench with a blanket over it about 6ft from the nest, this will change the flight path of the bees as they come and go. They will be flying in above your head if you are a few feet form the new obstacle. Unlikely honey bees in ground.
Slowly pour liquid cement down the hole until it fills up. Dig it up and hang a cement bees nest in the garden as a deterrent for others.
Ground bees are a thing..who knew!

Last year we had at least 2 nests under old tree stumps. I’m disappointed that they don’t seem to be around this year 😞
Putting aside allergies for a minute because that changes the game.
Why are people so bloody worried about getting stung. Getting stung hurts like **** but you have to be pretty unlucky to piss them off that much unintentionally.
Just point it out to the kids "look at the cool bees, stay away from them because if they get angry they will sting you, so keep them happy." if your kids can't follow that advice they'll learn pretty quickly. Alternatively raise them to be scared of them...
Poke it with a stick.

Arm each child with a Laura Ashley cushion to gently fend them off.
And a bin bag, don't forget that.
What Josh said.
We (I) picked up a bee and brought it home for a drink the other day. My daughter tried to hold it but the tickling freaked her out but fair play to her, she enjoyed watching it drink and run about my hand (I think it had attachment issues). They really are very docile creatures and you would have to actively annoy them to get stung, accidental standing on them aside.
We have 2 bee's nest out the back.
1 digger bees and 1 red tailed bumble bees.
As others have said, just leave them bee, they won't bother you if you don't bother them.
I quite like the idea of a kids party with kids running about flapping in panic after one pokes the nest though, there is always one that just has to do it....don't invite that one.
