I need to replace the one in my S6, but how can I buy with confidence that it's not a knock-off?

Can you buy direct from Samsung? How old is it? Why not a warranty job?

I bought a replacement for my Sony on Amazon (from a trader rather than direct). No guarantee it's not a knock off, though the listing says it's genuine and it all looks fine and seems to be working well - I always figure there's a slightly better chance of avoiding knock offs on Amazon than on ebay and the reviews there give you a decent chance. If it helps at all the trader was Glitzy Gizmos, though I note that the reviews for their S6 battery aren't all that favourable, sorry!

Avoid the cheapest.

generally, avoid anything which uses a generic picture/description/price.

i have bought a battery for a motorola phone off ebay for C£6 iirc, and it worked fine and lasted longer than the original.

check how much an original replacement is first though,  it may not be much more expensive than ebay/amazon etc.

I got one that claims to be original for £6.   Let's see.

Trying to decide whether or not to replace the front glass whilst I'm at it.  Tricky, but I have a hotplate and I've researched it.

I've replaced the screen on an iPad (twice 😡) and whilst the scale is different it wasn't a huge amount harder than changing the back on my phone for the battery replacement (apart from the glue bit it's a fairly trivial screwdriver job). No idea how Samsungs are, but I can't believe they're all that different and I'd certainly consider a DIY job on the screen on mine. Have done all of those using a hairdryer rather than a proper hotplate.
