I'm not teetotal, not by any means, I just meant I didn't want one of those men who go to the pub all the time, the ones with nicotine-stained fingers and red faces from drinking way too much. Some pub is nice, some drinking is nice, but I know several men who drink loads, every day, alone, from early on in the day.

Maybe a simple "do you have a nose like Alex Ferguson?" question could weed those out? 😉

Missnotax & allrhegear - I've no problems with a girl on an orange 5 so I'll let you figure out between you which one I can take out first... 😆

Thing is dashed, will you be so magnanimous when they take your fave Strava KOM on their 5's ??? 😉

And to counter that horrible horrible "woman" up there ^^^ i'd like to add my new favourite "crush of the week":

Fit, in every sense of the word!

Thing is, i'm not sure a MTB girlfriend actually makes life any easier:

NON MTB other half:

you: I need to buy a new bike
her: NO.

simple, and to the point, vs;

you: I need to buy a new bike
her: cool, get a XC carbon 29 hardtail
you: i was thinking about a nice DH bike
her: no, you want a racey one
you: but.....
her: XC race bike or i'm leaving you for the milkman......

see what i mean!

😉

Me: I might buy a new MTB
Mrs FF: Cool, that means I can buy one too

Can't get better than that...

I can from experience say that having your other half involved in your hobby is a total pain in the arse

Scenario 1 - OH knows nowt about bike
Her: Have you bought a new set of forks?
Me: No, look, they're still black (having replaced old black forks with new black forks)
Her: Oh, fair enough - do some washing up

Scenario 2 - OH knows too much about bikes
Her: Have you bought a new set of forks?
Me: No, they're still black
Her: Funny, because before you had coil Lyriks and now you've got Air ones....
Me: DAMN YOU!!!!
Her: Do some washing up. Then stop that tap dripping....

That actually happened....

I did register with Plenty of Fish. Got dozens of offers of sex - "fun" was the euphemism.

Bloke: Would you like to meet up for some fun?
Me: Great! Shall we go to Brands Hatch to see the Touring Car racing?
...
never heard from him again.

but the best one was:

Jake: Hi, my name's Jake, I'm 19. I have a ferret and I can wheely the whole length of my street. Let's meet up and I'll give you a night you won't forget.

It was amusing at first, then very boring - there were no genuine offers of a date/meeting so I cancelled my profile.

I found my lovely man on a dating website, although he is on here too, does that sort of count?
And as for girls looking like their bikes, mine is beautiful, bouncy and lightweight - the answer is obviously NO!

Very funny thread so far.

I know of one couple but they met via forum rides so STW related.
Aha I know that couple too. She is a much better rider than him though! OMG, I'm going to get so run over when I next see him.

There is also a couple I ride with who met, both from STW.

As for ratio, guessin 50-1 men to women.

At the risk of causing massive offence, do girls look like their bikes? (and i guess us blokes too) ?? (much like dog owners looking like their dogs)

I have three bikes (a 26er HT, a 29er HT and a 26er full susser) - although they are all small and white.

If we go by the names, I'm a Specialized Inbred Scott...

My husband is on STW, but we met at work.

We're also have a dog, he looks like a cross between Benedict Cumberbatch and Toni Iommi.

Well, can't have that, can we! 😆

Here's him modelling his Benedict look - it's better when his hair is a bit more bouffant and mental. Got a picture of him wearing a scarf too somewhere...

[img] [/img]

And here he is rocking a 70s mullet and 'tasche combo.

[img] [/img]

Mr Toast only ever resembles him on projects that crunch for months on end - he forgets to shave and gets what's known in our company as 'memory programmer hair'...

They way some folk argue and bicker on here you'd think they were an item, they'd be better off booking a travelodge for the night and working their way through any difficulties wi the aid of some chamois creme and tight lycra but personally i dislike any gf of mine to have the same hobbies or interests, how is it possible to escape for a ride or head out after an argument to clear your head if your other half has the same idea? - you'd have to choose different trails.

I did see a very fit xc racer for a while a few years ago, (national champ kind of fitness) and whist it was good to ride wi someone race-fit and able to hold their own in every riding situation at other times, which to be honest was 90% of the time i much prefer to ride on my own/live on my own, my music blaring out when i want,no tv in my house ever, i do what i want when i want and i much prefer it that way (self confessed 100% anti-social person/cyclist) so it sort of grated on my nerves having someone around or expecting me to do stuff that i had no interest in.

As for dating sites or the suchlike i've never tried them and i seriously doubt i ever would - i much prefer living on my own as i simply cannot live wi someone else in the house......being anti-social and what-not 🙂 .

Think my missus looks a bit like her bike. Shiny and well cared for, an still turn heads, hard working, does the job without complaint, can only see signs of age/wear if you know where to look but doesn't get ridden often enough.

Going back to the original topic I met my wife at one of the first ever Singletrack weekends at Dalbeattie. We were camping beside each other, hit it off and the rest is history. We got married in 2005 and now run our own business in Glencoe.

I like to think I'm like my road bike AM bike

Roadie - sleek, fast, light.
AM bike - looks fantastic, is hard as nails, can handle pretty much anything and part of it extends to 12 inches long at the touch of a button.

In reality, what I'm actually like is my jump/hack/SS bike. Sluggish, a bit of rust in places, cheap but a couple of interesting bits and from Yorkshire.

I'm ready for you ladies :-s

+1. Online dating profiles that have no pics don't tend to get too far.

Also, tinker-belle, as you're a girl, is it fair to suggest that you're naturally inclined to be positive/ generous in your descriptions of people?
As in "oh, she has a lovely personality" (translated) "she's a bit mental and something of a handful"?
