Going to put new plug sockets in the house. Want to do the first fix to keep the costs down and need to get started asap as I need to get the spare room finished yesterday. A local sparky is calling by next wk but cant wait that long....

2.5mm cable? will be running under the floorboards and up behind the skirting. What depth box do I need to sink into the brick wall for a flush mount?
How many sockets can I fit in one ring? Was thinking one ring for upstairs (3 bedrooms), one down & one for the kitchen.

TIA

Assuming your local sparky will be the one passing off on the test and commissioning, I would ask him...

Under most circumstances, 2.5mm installed in the permitted zones with metal capping into (preferably) 35mm backbox would do the trick. Although existing circuits, floor area etc. can mean that would be no good.

Are the existing sockets part of a ring circuit? Are you sure?
It makes a significant difference to what you can do, andhow you do it.
What protection does the circuit have?

Fitting the back boxes/cable is the easy bit.

Why a ring?
You have got RCD protection?
As many sockets as you need on any circuit, it is the demand from the appliances that dictates how many you can have/use.
25mm deep back boxes are the norm for socket outlets.

If it's a ring the number of socket outlets is unlimited. The maximum floor area is 100m2 for a ring final circuit with a B32 MCB. If you don't already have it any extension to a final circuit must also be protected by 30mA RCD.
Single outlet spurs are permissible. If more than one outlet is on on a spur, the whole spur must be protected by a 13amp fuse.

Thanks for replies.
Some of that has gone right over my head tbh..... 🙂
I'm going to replace all the plug sockets in the house in the end, I'll chop out the brickwork for the boxes and run the cable to save money the electrician will do the rest and sign it off. The plan is to put all the sockets and cabling in before the decorating and new carpets upstairs then switch over to the new ring/s when all in place.
I had a bigger consumer unit installed 4-5 years ago so hope that makes it easier.
