For the last 9 years we have used MYOB BusinessBasics but it looks like it's no longer supported.
Any ideas? Must be able to run on a Mac. Prefer just to buy some software rather than 'on line' type thing.
We've been using quick books for 12 years now, runs on mac or PC, can try before you buy too
We use Free Agent and its flipping brilliant for our needs (advertising agency). Syncs with our CRM and pays nicely with a Mac. The there is a free trial and we signed upon the back of it.
Xero is a very popular cloud based package.
Freeagent, Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage One.
They all have their pro's and cons and being online are universal. See which suits you business the best.
Macs don't get a lot of support for installed accountancy packages unless you're running dual boot or Parallels in which case Sage Instant accounts.
If you can tell me more about your business I can suggest a better match.
Freeagent user here too - pretty happy with it now but about 3 years ago it caused me no end of headaches as it stopped importing the bank feed correctly - missing some transactions and duplicating others.
It was an unholy mess!
Been using Free agent for 18 months. Easy to use, a few niggles but way, way better than Brookson's in house system which I was forced to use before.
I use Kashflow... bit cheaper than some of the others and does everything I need at present. Freeagent is usually rated the best from the research I've done.
Freeagent, cheap and removed all the hassle for our business when connected to bank account
How the hell have you managed to use MYOB up to now? I used to use that on the Mac but in the UK it became Accountedge back in 2010 ( http://www.simpleaccounting.co.uk/software/accountedge.php)
I'd have thought you might still be able to migrate straight to Accountedge. It has got a lot more expensive over the years and moved from an outright purchase model to an annual subscription.
I'm also using Xero for a project I help with. I've only been using it a couple of months and it seems pretty good.
Comparing the two Xero is definitely shinier - it's a modern glossy interface and the formatting of the reports and invoices is much better than Accountedge. However, it has the classic web-app issue of being a bit slow - it's not that snappy when you click on something. And of course you've still got the other issue of having nothing local - when my internet was down for two days I didn't have access to anything. They've got a shutdown over this weekend (I've not noticed them before).
What I do with both is very very simple so can't comment on anything more advanced.
Accountedge is now £150 plus £130 p.a.
Xero is £264 p.a for the mid tier (the starter is very restricted).
