I bought some "hockey puck" third party cables a couple of years ago, no problems and the watch now sits flat on the bedside table when charging

I use adaptors I got off amazon instead of the cable, so I can charge using a normal USB c cable in the car, office etc.

No issues here.  Something like below...

It'll be fine. Probably..

The thought of being burnt alive scares me. YMMV

WTF is a snide or a shanner?

But yea, mine does just fine charging though various non-garmin cables.

That's chargers / PSUs, hard to imagine how a usb cable could overheat on its own.

I got 3 usb-c to Garmin adapters as I lost the genuine cable.

Came from Amazon.

The cable has since turned up but doesn't work so should be recycled.

I've picked up a few Garmin copy cables from eBay that are in the car, my work desk, work bag, caravan, wife's car, given to No1 stepdaughter, etc, and they all work absolutely fine.

I'll raise you the 220 with a still-working 910XT.  Though I've not seen the cable for a while....?

I've got a couple of those USB-C to garmin watch (955 in my case) adaptors.  No problems so far.

I tend to us a Samsung power bank to charge the watch, to reduce as far as I can any risk of a power surge blowing up the watch.

Absolutely and utterly no copy or dodgy Chinese knock-off wall chargers though- Samsung only, except for a couple of original Blackberry sockets when charging low power items like the Exposure trace/tracer lights.

And never left on overnight / unattended.

Snide is a mix of cheap easily cast metals used to make dodgy replicas.  Originally counterfeit money iirc

it's not the cable that's the issue it's the plugs at each end which are the cheaply made and connected bits. Personally, I'd be even less likely to use a cheap adaptor that creates two more potentially dodgy connections, but I've said before, I'm paranoid about a house fire, so will not risk it. YMMV.

There's a very small number of house fires caused by knock off chargers, or people leaving dishwashers to run overnight, or..... but it's not non-zero.

I guess if you can live with the constant sarcastic remarks then it should be ok.

The cheapy copies have always been fine for me. They dont last as long as genuine but at £2 a go, I will put up with it.

I have a handful of these, some lightening=>garmin, some USB-C=>Garmin. All work perfectly, and means my partner no longer needs to worry about remembering cables...

You should take the opportunity to upgrade to refined golf plated cables to ensure that you only charge with correctly polarised electricity. This will ensure superior light quality from the optical heart rate sensor.

Don't forget the directional fuses, too.

This double negative has me confused. I'm guessing you actually mean it's non-zero?

I got a 2 pack of amazon cheapos last year and they're fine. Zero complaints.
