I’ve got a Deco S7 mesh system with 3 units which has 95% fixed my rubbish wireless.
I’ve got one spot which is still a bit dodgy. Is there any reason to not add a 4th (other than cost). 4 units feels a bit overkill but for some reason my house doesn’t seem to be particularly good for letting WiFi signals bounce about.
If I move the 3rd unit to the dodgy spot it struggles to get a decent signal from the other units. In its current position it’s wired and if I add a new one that will also end up wired.
I'm currently running 8 of them (Deco M5's I think) in an old 3 story house with thick internal walls and no way easy way to hardwire any of them. I think TPLink don't recommend going beyond 8 but I suspect it's more related to how many are chained off each other (I have a max of 3 in each chain). I still have dead spots though...
Don't see why you shouldn't - I had a similar situation. 3 Decos hardwired together, then added another two to fill out some blackspots - one hardwired again, the other at the opposite corner (where there's no cat 6) chaining off the nearest hardwired one. All seems to work fine; Sonos still struggles with finding devices, but that's not exactly a new thing!
I have a question though: everything on the network is connected through a Deco, but the app tells me there are no online clients. Is it because DCHP is set up on the main router (between the Decos and modem)?

That's not surprising if you put it in the dead spot - there's no signal there. You need to put it inbetween the good signal and the dead spot so it can extend the good stuff. Best way to do this would be to add a 4th unit and leave the other 3 where they already work for the rest of the house.
I’ll get another one then 🙂

Now that’s written down it’s obvious of course 🙂
It’s currently half way between the dodgy spot and another one and it’s more or less sorted things but it’s just sitting in the middle of the floor, which isn’t ideal.

I’m no expert (hence this thread) but presumably yes. My Virgin router is now in Modem mode only and the Deco handles everything else, including DHCP.
