I have started an application to join the BTP. Hoped there might be someone that could give me a few pointers about the process and in particular what recruiters are looking for when it comes to competency answers, I hate those.
Cheers.

😆
Not sure you're going to get very far with this.
Biscuits anyone..?
Predictable replies are predictable 🙂
Daughter joined the Met (London) several years ago after what was a 2 year process. As part of it she had to write several essays (of several pages each) of things like: examples of when she had to show leadership; when she challenged racism; etc All required the sttuation, what she did, and the outcome.....
Hope this helps....
It was 18 years since I went through the recruitment process, but a colleagues son is currently on his recruits course with BTP in London. I think he is going to be working in Leeds.
As far as answering the questions on the application, use the STAR format ( situatiion, task, action, result)
Be honest, dont bull**it.
Read up on the Constabulary, if you can get hold of the Chief Constables annual report that should tell you about initiatives, policing strategy etc. Read up on this sort of thing.
Good luck.
It's a long time since I completed one but I was recently helping my gaffer prepare interview questions, and all the 'tell me about a time when you...' are looking for STAR answers as described above, with A being the biggest part and be sure to talk about what YOU did.
Why aren't you joining the real police? 🙂
Just tell them how bizzy you like to be bizzying around in others'affairs. 🙂
Why aren't you joining the real police?
Trainspotter, innit.
Ah yes 🙂
Let's hope your not based at Kilwinning, at least you'll get plenty overtime with all the shenanigans on that line! 😆
Someone I know had several attempts. The only comment I can add is - get a responsible old person to do a spelling and punctuation check.
It took my son 5 years to get into the Police (Avon & Somerset), he was a Special Constable for most of that time.
A specific police forum may be best, like this https://www.policeuk.com/forum/index.php?/forum/111-police-jobs-recruitment/ you're likely to get responses from those in the job or those going through the process. Good luck.
