Seems its time to move all 4 of us on (sim only) but we've been happy with Plusnet: cheap sims, app worked well for checking usage, EE coverage was fine, allowed EU roaming and the smart cap was a handy protection from over use so basically after similar again.
Not moved from Plusnet Mobile, but been happy with ID Mobile (SIM only) for a couple of years.
Good EU roaming, and unused data gets carried forward (up to 2x what you pay for), plus all the other stuff you mentioned
80gb for £10. I'm on 20gb for £7, and with the carried forward thing, it rarely goes below 30gb, which is ideal for holiday streaming
Moved the daughter and myself to O2 (via Virgin) initially, it turned out the coverage for everyday use was dreadful (Birmingham,, Walsall, Cannock). The cost was on par with Plusnet £6/month (7GB)for me and £8/month(20GB) for her. I've now switched her to 1p mobile, £10/month for 25GB, unlimited calls and texts. It piggybacks on EE (same as Plusnet), coverage is as was before and seems quicker too - even inside Villa Park. I've left mine with O2 as I have a dual sim phone and use work data if struggling for coverage (Vodafone).
Been on plusnet for years, moved to EE as they offered "the same package at the same price". That was based on staying with that package as plusnet include Switzerland, which some of the other MVNOs like Lebara don't
Number was transferred within 12 hours, which was a bugger as the new SIM card had not arrived and I had to go into an EE store to get it sorted. They also failed to mention that roaming was not included in the package and would cost £2.29 PER DAY. Having said that I rang the call centre and they just added free roaming.
I need to move Mrs NBT's package at some point soon, but not sure whether to go EE again...
I've moved to O2
Decent coverage, smart cap, EU roaming. 3 months Disney+ too.
I moved to ID
£10 a month for unlimited calls, text and 60GB data that rolls over. <br /><br />
Seem ok so far, especially as I am in an area with very poor coverage for most providers.
JUst moved kids to O2 as they needed new phones and we got a couple of decent deals on contracts. The wife and I still haven't moved yet but will be doing soon. ID mobile looks decent for sim only. I want data roaming included, thats a deal breaker for me.
About to go through the change myself, been putting it off as I couldn't really be without a mobile number for a few hours for the last few weeks. Probably go with EE as their signal is best for where I regularly go, although losing the roaming will be a pretty big minus. All the other providers seem to use Vodafone as their provider and that's not good for me so I'm kind of stuck with going direct to EE unless anyone can come up with a different provider? Need 10 gig for £10 on sim only, roaming would be a bonus (EU is fine) and good coverage in rural Wales is a must.
I was with plusnet but the move to EE would have cost me more for less data so I ditched the "great new deal" and moved to Lebara.
£8/month for 21Gb and the first 3 months were discounted at £3/month I think.
There are so many deals around it's hard to choose 🤣
See my similar thread..
1p Mobile might be a good option
Same, move to EE offering poor, O2 have a £8 for 40gb with EU roaming deal at the moment, just signed up to that
+1 for ID, I can't fault it.
I really don't know why people would use the big 4 networks themselves, they are so expensive
All of the Hoppys are now on Smarty, they were cheaper than Plusnet anyway and there is a family bulk discount and by referring each of them I got additional bonus. Service is fine.
I moved to Voxi, getting 15Gb 5G (where possible) coverage on Vodafone network for a tenner a month. This also includes unlimited access to several social media platforms, e.g. WhatsApp, FaceBook, Twitter plus others.
Have noticed that coverage & signal has generally been better than Plusnet ever was along with a far better deal for data.
I've just noticed that they're doing 60Gb for 12 quid at the moment with a whole load of other stuff thrown in.
I tried to move from Plusnet to Lyca, so I could stick with EE. Lyca have cocked it up massively - they were apparently upgrading their systems (over a 4 day period!) at the time I attempted to register with them. I've spent hours and hours on hold to them or talking to the online chat and have got absolutely nowhere.
I'm now in the position where;
* I have mobile number that they've assigned me, however I have not received a sim and they have no record of that number in their systems
* I have no account number or online account, so can't log in to see the order, however I keep getting emails from them complaining that I haven't paid the 15p (!?!?) I somehow owe them, for a service they've never provided me. I couldn't pay them it even if I wanted to - as there's no account portal for me to log in to!
* I sent them a PAC code while registering, which fortunately they seem to have no record of, as who know where my number would have been assigned!
* Despite being able to email me demanding the 15p, they're not able to find my email address in their systems.
In the end I've binned them and am ignoring their email demands for the 15p, and have gone with Talkmobile (O2) instead.
Moved to O2 a couple of months ago
I moved from an EE contract to a SIM only Plusnet deal. I now find I'm being offered a deal to go back to EE. The deal doesn't appear to work as apparently I'm an EE customer (er... no I'm not and they are likely to hike the price once I'm on board). Anyway I reckon Giffgaff will be cheaper.
This reminds me, I've had a couple of emails from Plusnet prompting me to move but not done anything yet. Don't use much data, but I do like my phone to make phone calls. How old skool is that!
Hmmm, we've a son on Plusnet in NZ. His SIM is there, but he's using eSim day to day.
I think we're going to order and activate a SIM in his name here in UK, and he will have to respond to texts etc, and 'collect' his SIM when he returns to the UK...
Another one leaving Plusnet, and another one going for that O2 40GB/£8 deal.
Nearly went with Talkmobile but the roaming turned out to be a bit limited - I think I'd have been over it on a trip earlier this year
If the swap is problematic I’ll come back here and let you know.
Mrs_oab did this - new phone from ID and moved from Plusnet. No issues, no discernible difference in performance.
The EE offer was actually worse value than my PlusNet contract
Yeah, mine too, even without the lack of roaming. So OP, don't just take the 'great EE deals' that Plusnet offer!
I moved from Plusnet to Lebara. Mainly as all the others seem to cap data roaming quite low.
I've got 20Gb of data, unlimited calls & 100 mins of international calls. £1.99 for the first three months, then £7.99.
I'm sure Plusnet were turning things off which stuffed my signal lately. No complaints with Lebara so far.
Been sim only for ages with plusnet and very satisfied with loyalty deal for broadband as well. However these prompts to move to fully branded EE deals were not as good as promised , I needed to upgrade my phone so went with a contract deal to Tesco who use O2. Found out this summer that I needed a better phone so upped to 5G capability and started to need more data as well so seeing as I'd been satisfied at Tesco before I switched to them , obviously paying more per month now but after being on the margin for years and coping, I'm now experiencing the luxury of more phone capacity and loads of data to boot. Happy up to now, time will tell.
PS the comment about things being turned off is interesting, I was getting around one day per week when my phone seemed to be 'going down' for no apparent reason , this is what pushed me to move in the end as I was initially happy to go with EE but these outages were disconcerting to say the least.
Roaming is important to me, I'm currently on a legacy contract with 3, sim only..
Is fine for £12 quid a month. 30 gb data I think.
Currently my phone is a pixel 4a but the battery is really starting to show signs of wear now, but it's been a superb value for money phone.
I won't be seriously looking but I think I'll probably just buy a brand new pixel 7a or 8a in a few months time and look at sim only contracts ..
Roaming seems to be difficult though when looking at sim contracts.. It's like kinda opaque and not always clear what's what.. So I might just stay with my current sim contact and buy a new hand set, whatever is best at the time.
Thanks all, good few companies to check although I'll likely find another EE-based provider given i know the network coverage is ok around our way.
And, like others have said, yes the EE transfer offer was higher than what we are paying on Plusnet
Another very happy ID customer. I needed a new phone so the switch came at the right time. A new Galaxy A54 which is £500 new, £25 a month over 2 years for unlimited everything = £600. Better signal with ID and 5g, too. Obviously your results, signal wise may vary depending on where you are but they use 3's network and I've not had any issues whilst out and about.
Those that have switched to ID Mobile, did you get the 3 month Apple TV offer and how convoluted was it to claim?
4 of us were with plusnet mobile.
Myself and mrs kcal migrated to EE - not bad deals in the end. one junior kcal went with EE, under separate account (finally - he's 24..) and the other went to giffgaff on account of euro roaming and bigger data allowance per £.
pleasantly surprised at EE, it's got better coverage, additional little niceties that plusnet didn't do -- short code messaging, I'm sure more 5G.
Just moved to SMarty to keep the cheap sim only deal and free roaming.
If you are interested let me know as I have a referral code that will get you a £10 amazon voucher.
I’m sure more 5G.<br /><br />
Don’t think PlusNet gives you any 5G?
I think you're right phil -- I couldn't recall when typing, and obviously now too late to check.
It didn't matter to us in the sticks - 4G is a bonus sometimes - but when in the cities it's useful.
I think Plusnet stated that they run on the 3G network and that is being switched off at the end of the year. It's not their decision so they cannot continue to offer a network
I need to do this too. Just looked on money saving expert and the couple of deals that caught me were:
Lebara, 5gb, unlimited calls and texts, monthly contract, £1.99 a month for 6 months. Then £4.90. (Best for me)
Lebara, 12gb, unlimited, monthly, £40 amazon voucher, £6.90 a month. (Possibly best for my wife)
They use Vodafone and the checker reckons they are best for me at home.
It's a while since I've moved so what's the process? Is it still, ring and get a pac code, then go to the new provider?
I saw better deals on uswitch than MSE.
I went with 30G data with ID for £7 a month.
More data and less money than before plus 3 months Apple TV.
Of course we all get shafted in April but the CPI plus a chunk increase written into all the mobile companies price plans.
Oo yes they do look a bit better. I don't need much data as I use the work sim for that, just a cheap sim to keep my own number. So lyca at 89p it is I think.
Just switched over to ID Mobile today. Process was quick and easy. Couldn't have been without service provider for more that 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, signal strength is utter pants and I now find out that ID mobile don't support my handset for WiFi calling even though my handset does!
Switched to Lyca yesterday as they had a deal of 3 months at £2.99 for 20Gb reverting to £9.99 afterwards, double what EE were offering direct and only 5Gb short of what I had with PlusNet. Rarely get above using 10Gb normally so suits me fine.
