About to order the new Honeywell EvoHome system + a set of extra wireless TRVs.

I currently have Drayton TRVs fitted to my radiators. Honeywell don't list them in their compatibility chart for the HR80UK.

www.honeywelluk.com/Documents/All/pdf/1150.pdf

Does anyone know if the heads are a straight swap or will I need to order a set of valve bodies at the same time? Hoping not to have to do this as it means draining the system.

Many thanks!

i hope you not clicked 'buy' just yet.

if you already have a timed controller/stat and trvs then the savings that this 'might' offer are very small indeed and may actually overall cost money because of the start up costs..(194 - 290... for the kit alone.)

i always advocate the total eradication of draughts and cold spots before any other work
then insulation of all flow and return pipework
then move on to a boiler that is functioning to spec ( exhaust gases test proves this)
then move to correctly specced rads and roof and wall insulation

changing your final controls is akin to swapping your shoes for driving..

Hi Totalshell,

It's a new build so insulation / boiler etc is up to spec. The only thermostat is on the wall in the hall and obviously does a crap job of controlling the rest of the house, with the top floor bedroom especially getting way too warm.

So not really for energy saving, more for convenience. Mechanical TRVs are pretty much useless in my experience, especially when they're unable to trigger a heating demand.

Looked into bog standard electronic TRVs but advantage of Honeywell system is the zoning.

I ve reviewed the website and watched the video.

i can see the benifits of controlling the temp in each room, thats why trv's are now compulsory.

from the evohome website i have a couple of issues..

trv's are as you have hilighted a fairly lump hammer method of controlling temperature and a the idea of a digital thermostat controlling the room temp is appealing.. but physically connecting that stat to the rad? when room stats have to be normally 1.5 meteres from a heat source.. and when that stat may not be in the part of the room you spend time.. ie at the other end or worse still behind a bed/ sofa..

what are the costs of heating just one room as would be entirely possible if all other rooms were not calling for heat?

despite the property being new build/ recently built i'd not take as granted that all my previous points have been covered. I live in a new build redrow home and its minimally insulated the pipes have bare minimum insulation the windows are draughty and only this morning i have replaced the front door draught excluders..

your energy co. will install deeper loft insulation and cavity wall insulation all for free and these will add to the minimum provided in a new home save money and cost nowt and keep the heat the home is generating in the rooms you intended.

New build should be insulated to a fairly good standard. Adding more may compromise loft ventilation. Cavities will be insulated, windows should be good and not worth the expense of upgrading. Ventilation should be minimum too.

I would try turning the top radiator off and see if room was warm enough. House should have trv fitted to bedroom rads anyway and possibly even zoned. Trv to top rad should stop that rad from warming room if it is up to temperature.
