Found anything useful lately?
I've been happily extracting images for compositing for ages. Refine edges was great but it has got better this year however dropping complex cutouts of hair often gave a slight glowing halo against darker backgrounds. Finally got it sorted using layer copy mask on the new image I'm layering with.

Personally I quickly draw a lasso marquee around something I want to cut out and then use the select and mask feature. Quickest way to get decent results.
Me to, although I use the QuickMask brush at first. But on stuff like detailed cutouts of hair against a dark background aren't you getting a halo as in the first image? I can't find any other way round it.
No I don't get halos but there are many ways to combat that and I can't put 20 years as a retoucher into a couple of sentences. Simply put the correct use of the select and mask feature will give you the best results. If it isn't then you're not using it correctly so I suggest online training videos to see how to best use it. Once you get that nailed then trust me it's brilliant.
Its working and I'm getting really great results, its just the really fine details hairs that I'm having trouble with I'm getting round it currently by copying the mask onto the background and tweaking that. The shift, feather and contrast parameters are still not quite there for me. I shall persevere however. Just need to keep tweaking my method as CC works so much better than previous versions for me.
