Ha, no nothing like that, more to do with hospital procedures than a personal medical problem

thats his next trick. You should see what he can do with a crown cap.

I was just cleaning it, officer, and it went off in my hand.

Looks like you havent taken the crew cap off.

Always leave the screw cap on otherwise you'll create a vacuum pump which will rip out your guts.

Just sayin' like.

That's just bad planning, if they had shown more commitment and inserted the bottle the other way around they would have been able to help themself to a tasty beverage whilst waiting to be seen.

Just don't shake it before taking the top off.

Or is it a bit like a DIY coffee colonic irrigation?

To be fair flashy, at least you wouldn't have to try and make an excuse up with a rubber vibrating cock.

Is it concerning that the pt in the first X-ray has had their hip replaced?

Perhaps the surgeon forgot to take it out?

That's why they slipped, because of their dodgy hip!

To be fair - the person with the bottle up them appears to only have had half their hip done. Just the ball, not the socket.

They're female btw.

It's the unfixed fracture on the left rather than the hemiarthroplasty on the right I'd be more worried about.

(An A&E doc if that's any help - e-mail in profile)

dr_death - is it fractured or just the way the person is lying? Does the leg not tend to rotate outwards when the NOF is broken?

Looks more like OA than a fracture to me. But you're the expert.

Dr Death, call yourself a doc, you missed the inserted object 🙂

Oh jees, do we need another expert now, shall I ask Mrs FD's opinion, she's san orthopaedic surgeon, but im sure she will agree that this (female) has inserted some thing where it shouldn't go. She might get technical about hips too 🙁

the inserted object is quite clearly photoshopped (it's a plastic bottle, plastic is radiolucent....)

(I also clearly need to get out more)

Just because it had to be photoshopped, doesn't mean it wasn't there. Quack. 🙂 x

Dr Death ah bugger I knew there was a reason why I became an NHS accountant and left the doctoring to Mrs FD

Edit: OP I know lots of stuff about A&E tariff and cost if that would help answer your questions? Email me

Has to be said the x-ray is too bollocks to be certain but the neck on the left certainly looks shorter c.f. the right and Shenton's line looks all to pot. Needs a lateral....

Dr death.

I was talking about you just the other day. It still cheers me up when I remember you tracking me down in hospital and the nurse asking who you were 🙂

jet26 - how can you tell? Surely even a metal on polyethylene one would show up more than that on an x-ray.

Funky dunc, I do have lots of questions regarding hospital costs which you can advise me on. Here are some for you.

1 : Cost of CT scan to a hospital(NHS Obviously)
2 : Estimated cost of keeping someone in hospital, per night?

I've looked into this quite alot and do have some rough idea, but it would be great to hear from someone direct.

Cheers

Chris

Estimates of ct scan price vary at about a couple of hundred quid depending who you ask, likewise a stay in hospital varies from 2-5 hundred depending who you ask....

What about 5 weeks on ICCU, MRI, CT scan, Gamma Camera, course of Intravenous immunoglobulin, and loads of Calpol?

🙂

it's the calpol that wiped out that budget, I reckon

From what I've been told the a ct scan costs around £50.00 to the hospital. This is for staff/electricity etc/machine maintenance. This is during the day when staff are operating the machine routinely. Sounds rather cheap but I've seen it costed on 2 cost reports from 2 major hospitals.

What about the cost of buying or renting the machine on top of the other stuff you've mentioned?

"There is wide variation in utilisation rates of MRI and CT scanning machines. However, because there is no central collection of data, individual trusts cannot compare their utilisation rates and costs with other trusts in order to improve efficiency. Trusts report their average costs per scan, but they do so differently. In 2008-09, the average cost per CT scan ranged from £54 to £268; and, for MRI, it was between £84 and £472 per scan. However, for radiotherapy, the Department of Health has developed a dataset which will enable comparisons to be made about efficiency and utilisation between radiotherapy treatment centres." National Audit Office.

Who knows, I'm guessing these costs are once the hospital own the equipment, operating costs I guess.

Glupton/Dr death you can see the acetabular component, and the cement around it - metal on poly bearing. Plus the femoral head is smaller than that for a hemi. And hemi's look different.

Agree left side suspicious, although needs another view.

OP apologies, this does not help you!
