My buddy is on a trip from Milford Haven to Norway in his 12m yacht (check Acheron on Marine Traffic - just left Lerwick this morning) and on their way up the west coast they got buzzed at speed by a proper hooligan boat that has been developed for fast and stable servicing of oil platforms and wind farms. There's a good video here:

I can't take a video that contains the phrase "a solution designed to work" seriously even if they mean "to [do] work"

Definitely needs some Monster Energy stickers on it. Mebbe Monster Energy could sponsor the wind farms you know like the banks like to get their mucky paws all over the airport sponsorship.

JulianS - I've* built the tender for one of the successor craft to the Thunder Child.
An XSV20 currently being put together at SH in Ireland.

* I do the simple grunt. I work with a couple of v v smart chaps who do the impressive stuff.

Unfortunately I dont have a photo of the craft to hand. But its the latest version of this:

but stronger, lighter.

just a coincidence, but I wouldn't trust him either....

But not Peru. We make them in Herefordshire. Well known naval shipyard location that it is...

I once went into a small shed in Norfolk and saw Simon Sanderson’s round Britain wave piercing hull. It was just about wide enough to get the Lynx helicopter gas turbine in and seemed to have most of its length tapering to a point. Amazing machine.

I saw something Thunder Child on telly a while back, and I though, hmmm, I’d like one of those; even more so with the new version!
Of course, I’d need a Euromillions win...
Stunning boat.

Who makes that wee RIB? I'm just getting over the discovery that Avon is now part of Zodiac since forever and all the wee cute clever boats are no more.

Apologies for the shonky website. But our webmaster is also our CEO, CFO, Head of Marketing and Electrical Systems designer and installer.
I just make the tea. And the GRP parts.

We specialise in wee, cute and clever. And light and fast.
Catamaran hull w Hydrofoil.

We finished this the other day, it's gone on back of 50' sunreef.

Wave piercing designs have been around for a long long time now..... and stabilisers but not seem them on a boat that small.
That video has been filmed in pretty much flat calm conditions - I suspect its weather window is pretty small in the UK.

Looks like a boak boat - would like to have seen it even in medium conditions, running 3/4 in a 5m swell, wind against tide and see how that guy manages to drink his cuppa without chucking it all over himself.

My eleven year old can pretty much recite that book from memory

He didn’t look overly confident in the conditions shown

These are effectively cruise liners, sailing the warmer waters in luxury.
But compared against what ?. A 30' sloop, or 2x1000hp+ working powerboat designed for heavy weather, as featured at the start.
