My phone had a funny'un today at work. The screen froze but I could still operate the on screen joy pad that I use because the home button stopped working.

The screen went off but I can charge it, the vibrate works and I can feel texts going off in my pocket.

I think I need to reset the phone but can't because I've no home button. Luckily I managed to get the light on to drain the battery (but this is taking ages to drain the phone)

Any ideas what it is, what to do etc?

Is the screen on then if you got the light on? If you can go to settings general then accessibility. Turn bold text on and it will reboot your iPhone and fix a springboard crash.

Or bang it in the freezer, thatll kill the battery pronto then just recharge

What model is it? The 4/4s had home button issues due to the decision to use a 'soft-click' button after complaints about the button on the 3G/3Gs being too 'loud'! 🙄
That was reversed on the 5, but obviously it's an electro-mechanical component, which gets lots of use, and shit happens, 'cos nothing is perfect.
Wysiwyg of this parish is a dab hand at performing surgery on such things, and maybe he'll be able to cure your ailing phone.
Well, there you go, no sooner said than!

Itll drain the battery in about 15 mins from full.

Stick it in a bag, suck the air out and twist it closed and bobs your uncle.

Once its dead let if come back up to room temp and charge away.

Done it numerous times with old 4s' with wifi chips that died with zero ill effects

Ah! Interesting! It's in the work freezer in a plastic bag as we speak. I shall report back.

Hold down the power button and turn it off. Then on again.

It's locked mate, think when you do that when it's locked you have to 'slide to power off' and with the screen not working I can't.

I had exactly the same / similar problem with mine. This may help, keep the on/off pressed and the cursor button thing also pressed down this should reset the screen - apparently a common fault on Iphones

That's the home button that's been broke on mine for a while.
