Hi my old iPad is giving up the ghost and I’m wanting something with a bit more storage and I also fancy having a doodle with the Apple Pencil. I’m pretty much decided on the air as the pro models are too spendy but I was wondering if there are any decent deals out there at the moment as it still is a lot of money to spend .thanks
Refurbs are excellent. You’d have no idea they weren’t brand new.
My go to place for mobiles and tablets.

Perhaps wait until march 31 for the new Apple release event in case there is updates to existing models, thats if the event goes ahead as there has been delays due to factory shutdowns (coronavirus).
I'm after an iPad air myself but gonna wait a month.
Older model pro (10.5”) feels less bulky and lighter than new pro, and works with series 1 pencil.
The sound is definitely better than the air, but I don’t think there’s any/much difference in the screen.
Apple Pencil is excellent.
Did the Apple release event happen?
Yep, was the iPad Pro 2020 mostly (I bought a 12.9" one to replace my 2017(?) 10.5" Pro). I do like the bigger screen (I was starting to do a lot of reading on it hence wanted the larger screen) and don't find it any heavier/more inconvenient to use than the older Pro.
Not massively overwhelmed by anything else on it though. It doesn't seem any faster for most stuff I do, face ID is OK but was happy enough with thumb unlock and I rarely take pics so can't say the upgraded cameras are a big deal for me. Certainly wouldn't upgrade from the earlier gen Pro unless you want a bigger screen (and even then the last gen 12.9" is a fair bit cheaper now).
Take a look at the Argos Outlet eBay store. I haven’t checked for iPads but wife just got a phone from there that is apparently “refurbished”. Apart from a scuffed box it looks brand new and unused, battery health at 100%. I suspect it was display model or something.
iPads are way overpowered for the things 99% of people throw at them. But they're also overpriced. As such, picking up a secondhand unit is often the best way to get bang for your buck so I'd check out decent eBay resellers or private ads.
Put it this way, 2 months ago I bid something like £800 on a sealed 3rd Gen Pro 12.9 but lost by a fiver. Ggrhrh I thought. Next day I won a mint (69 cycles) 128Gb 1st Gen Pro 12.9 for £260! Day to day there is no difference between the two. Originally I wanted the former for a bit of future-proofing but in reality I'm pleased I missed out as saving £500+ for what is still an exceptional piece of kit makes more sense.
I already had a 1st Gen pencil as writing/storyboarding is part of my job and performs as I need it to.
Is there a new iPad mini coming out soon?
We need to replace my wife's rather knackered v1 but clearly don't want to pay £400 now only for a new one to come out a month later
Speculated release date for the new iPad Mini is September or October this year
Thanks
Rather than start a new thread, my old iPad Air is showing its age (battery not holding charge a full day of not constant use) so looking at replacement with a new air or the 11” Pro.
The last two have lasted knocking 5 years a piece so it’s worth getting something decent.
Anybody care to offer an opinion one way or the other?
I've got the 11" pro becuase I thought I was going to do lots of bikablo type drawing on it using the pencil. It mostly gets used for watching netflix on the train home though. I probably should have just bought the bog standard iPad. It is lovely though, especially the face recognition and the sound quality is pretty good.
Hehe, the current one is pretty much used for surfing at the moment.
But I’ll have it for 5 years, who knows...
