We're thinking of having one mains and one electric shower in the house to keep washing facilities available at all times if we ever have boiler issues, but my experience of electric showers is one of pathetic drips.

Is it really worth doing this in the first place?

And are there any good electric showers that feel like you're actually being washed rather than slowly dampened?

No. All electric showers are rubbish compared to proper stored-water ones.

Just get a reliable boiler and a huge unvented water tank

Beware though an unvented cylinder will still only be as good as the incoming supply. In most cases it is advisable to upgrade the incoming main, from the internal stopcock, to a larger diameter as a minimum.

The parrot has it. I was duped into believing it would be 'ok'. It's utterly rubbish compared to the boiler fed one, it's a 10 kw Mira sport I think. Would get more flow boiling the kettle and running up the 3 flights of stairs. Almost.

We have a mains-pressure unvented system too - great thing it is. Not quite as powerful as a pumped power shower but not far off it and comes with the added benefit of not having noisy pumps that could fail. We can run two showers at the same time and barely notice a pressure drop either.

We were relatively happy with our cheap Triton 9KW
When we replaced the bathroom we thought we were upgrading to a 10KW Mira but the flow is about 10% less! Doing it again I would investigate the top of the range Tritons as I've since read that they outperform the Miras for power.

We've got a 10.5Kw Triton & it's perfectly good.
Yes, it's not like a strong power shower that strips layers of skin, but it's far from being a pointless dribble too.

It obviously slows down a bit in the winter when the incoming water feed is that bit colder, but even then it's still fine.

A lot of this comes down to the showerhead design. For reasons that escape me, we swapped the showerhead a while back & the new one made a massive difference to how 'strong' the shower feels.

We put a Triton Quattro (?) over the bath in the family bathroom & It's not bad, better than the mains fed affair we had in the en suite. We replaced that one with an Aqualisa & it's fantastic!
