Looking for a small hatch to be my commuter and for Jnr to learn to drive in. 4-5 years old, around £7k budget

Have already looked at the Yaris. Very nice, very well equipped, not many around at the moment, and we're both a bit sceptical about visibility.

Seem to be a few i20s about in our range - anyone got any experience? Had a few i30 hire cars over the years for work and always found them dull, competent and not unpleasant, but never lived with a Hyundai day to day.

What's the opinion of any owners?

Thanks

I have one. Have done 150,000ish miles in it. Been pretty good. Had a gearbox bearing issue at about 60000 miles sorted under warranty and a crankshaft sensor failed at about 120,000 miles otherwise no real issues. It's got 4 wheels, a steering wheel a stereo and you can put people and stuff inside it and go places so works pretty well as a car.

My wife has a 14 plate Kia Rio which is closely related to the i20. No probs at all in 5 years/40k miles - cheap to run, reliable, reasonable spec, does the job. Not at all exciting but would recommend.

As a dissenting voice we have one and not the biggest fan. Just came back from a few days in the garage due to issues with the electric power steering. It turned off halfway round a roundabout woop. Had a crankshaft sensor go as well.
Positive points are it's dull, efficient and can get 2 bikes in the back.

Used to. Now an i10. Had it from about 10000 miles to about 50000. I think we put a few new tyres on it and that was it, cheap service every year. Not the most exciting car, but so what?

Had an i30, now got an i10 (also had a Lantra and a Hyundai pony (when I was very young!) so probably a bit of a fanboy...however, never had any issues, always found them the most reliable of cars. Cheap to run and service, while being pleasant to drive, if not exactly exciting !
