The week before last a car managed to hit the dry stone wall opposite our house, taking a section of the wall out and partially knocking over a stone gatepost in the process. I took a photo at the time, but stupidly didn't take the driver's details as he seemed like a fairly sound guy and said, as he was a brickie himself, he was going to chat to the farmer about rebuilding the wall.

Anyway, he hasn't, and I'd like to help the farmer out as much as I can cos he's a nice fella.

So, long shot, but can anyone get the reg plate off this photo? I can email an original if necessary.

Plus. I'm failry sure it's a Ford Galaxy, anyone care to confirm/correct?

Can't you just take it to some spotty young analyst and bark "zoom in. Sharpen that image"?

A link to the highest res image you have would be useful.

Probably too blurry to be usable.
Try this.

Sorry! It was the inevitable answer though....! 🙂

OP - I think what you have is too blurry though, but if you have hi-res one it might be worth a look.

I've zoomed in and pretty sure I can see a reflection, can anyone enhance?

The version uploaded to google photos is usually reduced resolution, did you take the photo? got a higer resolution version on the phone / camera?

Using the latest AI image enhancermentation software what I is developing, I got this

I checked here and it's nearly right! Some more development to do. 😀

On your camera, zoom in, crop it and then save a new copy, and upload that. Your camera will have all the pixels.

While we've got all the experts here, can someone help with this one as well?

https://ibb.co/DLvvp3Y

Someone got out at the wrong place at the airport and I want to write to the Daily Mail about it. Pretty sure they have a private plate too, entitled nobbers, really, bet they don't even pay road tax 🙄

Tried running it through superenhance in Adobe Lightroom (not enough pixels really), and was also guessing KP13KJT - but no matches on DVLA or Parkers.

Yeah, I wondered that, but I checked and it's the original resolution - 6.1Mb, same as original on my phone

That really is nearly right. Are we sure it's a Galaxy, not a C-Max?

Definitely a Galaxy. Maybe he puts false plates on and goes round knocking walls down to drum up business...

Possibly AP13 KJ*

Sadly too low res to make much more of it than that. It’s possible to do edge enhancement and careful sharpening, but at the distance the photo was taken, there ain’t much to work with.

Where are you OP? I appreciate the car might have come from anywhere, but with an idea of location we might be able to take more of an educated guess on the first 2 characters?

A lot of silver Galaxys registered AP13KX*, but they all appear to be Zetecs and I think based on the wheels and the badge on the lower right that this particular example is a Titanium.

Is that still a thing? I thought they'd stopped doing that years ago.

(though of course, 2013 is "years ago"...)

I did have that thought, but I think unless it's a (nearly) new vehicle - which I don't think it is! - chances of it being located where first registered are pretty low. But there really is nothing else to go on so might be helpful 🤷‍♂️

Someone at the .gov MOT checker website is currently wondering why they are getting loads of users spamming similar reg numbers.

Any of them registered near Macclesfield or Whaley Bridge?

What time of day? If it's a weekday he might have been going to or from his job site. If you're properly determined you could glance into any new build estates going up in the next couple of towns.

The trouble with me is that if I get into sleuthing mode, that's the kind of thing that I'd do!

Squinty-eyed brain-powered old-school pattern recognition makes me guess:

First letter options W R K X
Second letter options F P
First number options 2 5
Second number options 3 9 6
Third letter options K L
Fourth letter options W J
Fifth letter options T X Y

...I've spammed the DVLA reg checker with a few of what I thought were the most likely options, but haven't found anything useful yet.

EDIT: WP59KWT? Comes up as a "Focus Zetec" but based on what ads678 said, might be it?

AP is Norwich. WP is Bristol. Don’t think there’s any way of a regular person getting even an approximate location of the current registered address though!

Have you tried turning on the beeps on your computer? Enhancement only works if the computer beeps with every key stroke.

My enhancement programme suggests the correct number place it NE14 ABJ.

I think it's a Mk 2 facelift version, so 2010 - 2015 (which rules out 59 plate?)

Yeah I think thats a Titanium, but my old SMax was a Titanium and always came up as a zetec on insurance websites.

Zetec is the motor type, Titanium is the trim spec. Like my EcoSport is an ST-Line, the other top spec is Titanium, but they’re both EcoBoost engines. Zetec badges were on some Ford cars around the early 00’s, my Puma was a 1.7 Zetec, and a limited run of Fiestas also had the same 1.7 Zetec engine, badged as the Zetec S. That was a Yamaha built motor, but the tech later appeared on all Ford models.

I guess the word could be spread across the locality for a lookout to be kept for a silver Galaxy with partial plate number similar to what people have described, and a smashed in front nearside wing - there can’t be many. Also ask around local body shops.

Anyone up there friendly with the local CCTV systems?

my Puma was a 1.7 Zetec

I loved my Puma - one of the best cars I ever owned (possibly second to my Fiesta XR2 back in the day).

Zetec is the motor type, Titanium is the trim spec.

As well as being the generation of petrol engine that came from early 90s Zetec was also a trim spec for a long while.

None of the ford diesels are Zetec units. That was a petrol only series.

Yep, Zetec (and Zetec S) may have referred to the engine originally but was a (sporty) trim level for a long time on some of their models eg. Fiesta and Focus.

Reddit is good for this sort of thing as you get so many eyes on it.

You could try r/RBI or r/PhotoshopRequest

Both of those subs have 500k+ members (which I'm guessing is slightly more than here) so if it can be done I'd say someone on there will be able to help.

I watched a Police programme the other night, they found a car just from the type of car and the colour.

Not that useful I know... unless you know a cop willing to help out, but that was a murder case.

Yeah, it certainly didn’t encourage me to drive like a granny - which is probably why my fuel consumption rarely climbed above 30/gallon.

Which is also why, after I got made redundant, I couldn’t afford the insurance, the fuel or the hefty vehicle excise tax, and had to sell it. Broke my heart. 💔😢

Unlikely, seeing as DVLA list that as a black VW.
