You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
We have a Vaillant ecomax 824 which isn't producing hot water. We've had a few people over (sourced from ratedpeople / checkatrade) and we've been given conflicting information re: the fault.
If there's anyone in/near Portsmouth that could recommend someone, it'd be hugely helpful!
What have they said it is so far?
Find out who is your local authorized Valiant dealer, give them a ring and ask them to recommend someone.
We've been told 'flow sensor' and 'hot water heat exchanger'. I've just had a call with Vaillant directly and was offered a fixed fee repair at £299 excluding the heat exchanger & expansion vessel, then a 6month maintenance contract at £49 for 6 months which includes heat exchanger expansion vessel.
A mate who's local-ish has just messaged me details of a person they used, so awaiting a call back on that.
Wise words about local Vaillant dealer, will try that next.
Thanks!
do you just like spending money? british gas fixed fee repairs start at 79 quid for 20 minutes 199 for up to two hours and 399 all day.. i m an installer/repairer recomended by worcester bosch and i use bg for my own rental properties as its cheaper.. no contracts no fuss just fixed.
sounds like your fishing for a price when the best policy is to suck it up get someone in to fix it diagnosing modern boiler issues isnt an exact art and can be a combination of many factors. british gas will give you best value.
hang on! we haven't booked anything yet!
we're awaiting a callback from BG as it was under their contract before we bought the house. Hopefully, they'll offer some solid advice. (I didn't know about their fixed fee thing, my OH was looking at maintenance contracts through them).
just to add, not fishing for a price per se, more "the last time i had a ch system looked at, it was 200 miles further North and about a decade ago, loads of stuff has changed since 2006 and i don't know anyone in the area where i live, so coming at this with very little information" thing.

In fairness - thats bloody cheap for a fixed fee repair.
So is the 6 month - BG are more than that.
79 quid for 20 minutes
Never met a boiler engineer who will only take 20 mins. And you will be paying for the time it takes said engineer to go and collect the part he needs from his authorized supplier.
BG one-off fee + maintenance contract set up, as an annual cost, it worked out cheaper than their potential day-rate and we're covered for the year without any surprise costs.
£99 + £22pm, it makes getting it fixed affordable today and someone should be here tomorrow morning. Cheers all!
hmm. That didn't go well. I think, reading between the lines, the main burner seal(s) have gone/perished, so they can't put it on contract. My own fault for not having the boiler serviced in the 3yrs we've owned the house. So i'm quite likely going to see about replacing the boiler itself. Any recommendations for boiler brands and fitting companies? I'm a student at the moment so something on the never-never would be preferable.

Has it been repaired?
not yet.
I called Vaillant again. they offer a £299 fixed-price repair, so that's what's happening. Someone should be with me on Friday.
