Looking at a trip to New York. Any recommendations for a hotel?

Mid price. 2 adults & 2 kids (11 & 8). Prefer something independent rather than a chain hotel.

Mid price or mid price for New York? I stayed in the Tribeca Grand, now the Roxy and it was a pretty cool place.

The 'Andaz' on the corner of Wall street, surprisingly good location and a really nice hotel, price was reasonable by New York standards,
Bonus free Coffee all day long and muffins and brownies in the morning and wine in the evening.

Our daughter was 11 when she last went and really enjoyed it(not the wine obviously).

Look on airbnb. I've no experience of NY in particular mind. Too expensive for the likes of me!

The Waldorf Astoria is nice*. There were children staying there with their parents when we were there.

Depends where you want to be, Midtown is probably the best location compromise but not the cheapest. Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island ferry goes from Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, Wall Street and World Trade Centre are a short walk from there, but most other tourist attractions are midtown

* public rooms fantastic, guest rooms haven't been touched, decor wise, since about 1980. Probably not "cheap" either 😉

Yep, we stayed there, but I paid for it with air miles, rather than dollars...

Not sure on the kid friendly, but I've always been well served by The Mela. http://www.hotelmela.com/inside-mela

Great location, excellent service. Rooms aren't massive, but for that part of town it's about right.

We've booked the Sohotel. Near Little Italy. Looks like really good cafes and bars nearby.
Should be fun.

Last time we stayed at The Strand. Good location but possibly not very child friendly depending on the age of your children (no pool). Nicely relaxed and not a chain.

Last few times we did Airbnb, wouldn't / couldn't consider an alternative. I.e. Fifth avenue and (positively) fourth street. Drink in the Blind Tiger and eat in Fish and Amie's over the road. Bliss.

We booked the Yotel, seriously cba with the prices of hotels no nicer than a premier inn, so went for cheap and cheerful. Not going til March so I can't tell you what it's like.

We stayed at 414 Hotel in Manhattan and would recommend it. It's family run, really convenient for the theatre district. The owner can help you get tickets to shows and stuff if that's of interest...

The Press Lounge is only a couple of blocks away and that has a super impressive Sky Bar but I guess kids aren't allowed...?
