Looking for a hedge trimmer to cut thick bushes that grow off terraces and thus into the trails...
I would say the branches are up to 30mm dia, is there anything on the market that can cut these?
I have tried chainsaws but its a pain as the thinner branches just get pushed down and thus cant reach the thicker ones.

fack your pruning saws if they are on the ground .... loppers are what you want !

I am talking about tens of km's of overgrowth to open up ancient paths having not seen a foot in over a couple of hundred years.
I have those saw's in my camelback for the occasional shrub, fallen tree..
Probably loppers. Though for that distance, I'd go chainsaw for ease of use.

I'm currently clearing a huge garden full of 3m high brambles with a petrol strimmer with a brush cutter attached.

I follow up the bigger stuff with loppers or chain saw.

And saw or lop the really thick branches. It really is quite quick when you've had practice.
