I had been diagnosed this when I was 7, it affects the head of the femur. I have led a pretty active life, running marathons, and doing lots of riding.
I am now 31 and the discomfort in the hip has started again- Just wondered if anyone else has suffered from this or knows of anyone who has- are they still as active as they used to be?
My worry is not being able to do the things I love later on.... I may even have to get an e-bike!!
Yes, I had it as a kid.
I'm 34 and never had any bother with it since. I don't do any running due to a separate knee injury.
were you treated as a kid?
I was just put in traction for a week and that was it really. Regular X-rays though.
May have to go see the doc again.
I had it as a kid. I was in traction for several weeks then used leg callipers for months.
Very active all my life. No issues cycling.
Are you sure its the same discomfort ? When I was a kid the discomfort was actually felt in my knee, not my hip. You may have other issues not connected.
Go and see a specialist.
son had it when he was 3 - spent ten months in ankle to above the knee plaster with a broom handle joining the ankles.
he's 18 now, into taekwondo and the usual stuff an 18 yr old student does - no probs to report so far.
I will have to go!
I always thought my hip pain was due to this- I also did suffer every now and then from knee pain- but now since I had done my ACL on same leg, that it was just down to this.
I suppose the only limiting thing I struggle with is sitting cross legged!
No, I was never treated.
It was diagnosed pretty early when I was still quite light, so I just got told no running or PE for a few years at primary school.
By the time I was at high school I was back playing sports as normal.
I also got the pain in my knee not actually in my hip.
