Daughter turned the downstairs bathroom light on earlier and the electrics tripped. Now have no electricity to anything. Have turned all breakers on and off. Individually and at once. Unplugged everything and turned all switches off. Repeated whole procedure.

Nothing. Everything is dead and nothing I do makes any difference.

Any suggestions?

A live to earth fault will cause the main breaker to trip.

Some trip to a tripped state which requires you to turn it off and then go from the off position to on again.

Have you had a look at the switch to see if anything is loose or damaged?

I do have a socket in the kitchen which is a bit loose but that wasn't touched at any point. Could that have had any impact?
