Hi, I have a quick lighting question. I want to add an additional light onto existing wiring, there is a single light-switch with a constant live going in and a 'switched' live coming out to a single lamp, and I want to add a double-switch and another light (working independently to the existing lamp).
Is it straightforward? Do I just bridge the constant-live feed to both the live ports on the double-switch and run another wire from the second switch?
Thanks
Disclaimer: I know, I should get a spark, but I need to sort this today!!! 🙂
Absolutely correct but you will also have to run a neutral and earth to the new light fitting.
Thanks Scoob, how does one do that? The neutral is no problem, but here isn't an earth on the other loop...
Just read OP again. Constant live should be in common of original switch. Bridge this to common of new switch and take new switched live to light fitting. Take earth from swittch box/junction box or adjacent ceiling rose. Sorry for any confusion.

Is that 100% correct? So if I add a spur to a socket I need it signed off by a spark? Surely if there was an isue you would just say 'it was like then when I moved in'.

It was. 😉
Thanks all, sorted now. 🙂
No, almost 100% incorrect. Not a ring main, not notifiable work, won't invalidate insuranceIs that 100% correct?
