I have a physio session booked for monday and a referral to see a orthopedic surgeon in process. I have already been consulted by another orthopedic specialist and seen two physios already. As of the begining of the month i don't have any signs of rheumatic disease according to blood tests. I would say I am a very strong cyclist.
I have had debilitating knee pain on both knees with inflamation, stiffness and other leg aches for +10 weeks. After the first three days of trying to ignore it I put my feet up for a month, it seemed better, then using my legs again, has got worse so I am back off my feet as much as pos. and off the bike.
Everyone says I have ITB Syndrone, and I have no reason to doubt this. Everyone also agrees that this was most likely triggered by changing the cleat position on my road bike shoes. (I also used to wear a wedge that you get with specialised footbeds: the physios said these were mis-sold to me, but neither speculated on the impact these my have caused.)
There are two new features of the condition which are worrying me. A hamstring injury which was niggling when I got back on the bike has now become worse than the knee pain, it hurts all the time, a lot, gets worse when I push it even a small bit and is on the side where it feels my knee is worse.
Secondly I was given thigh/quad stretches to do by the physios, both the same, as well as being recommended a foam roller exercise. I got some relief when the knees were aching from these at first but now the stretches cause an alarming burning and sharp stinging pain in the muscle where I am stretching and I am not sure if I should keep doing these.
Considered medical opinion gratefully received with the assurance that I won't freak out, sue, or that the advice interferes with my treatment in person in professional circumstances!
Massive thanks,
T
ps. i am aware of other recent knee threads but i hope you will agree my 'case' is quite particular.
See when you were given those stretches etc - did you listen to the bit about how painful they should be - i.e. not painful, if they are painful stop etc. That was probably the most important bit.
You say you are a very strong cyclist. Do you mean your legs are very strong and you churn a big gear? If so, shift a couple of gears and spin more. Churning big gears is a mug's game.
Pace yourself or you will put yourself out of the game for a long time.
thanks it hurts towalk at the moment, my bike is gathering dust, no big gears!
Do you usually churn a big gear?
If it's sore ice it 12 mins every couple of hours.
thanks, ice applied, but will increase frequency, its been going on for months now
Do your eyes sting, and have gone red....? And I bet it burns to pee too.....
Has someone been a naughty boy......??!
