Hi folks

Looking to source some good quality tea bags and ground coffee for our self catering properties here. These are as part of our starter packs for our hospitality trays so looking at 18 turnarounds per week. Maybe 80 teabags a week and the coffee too.

Does anyone on here run a wee business doing this?

Many thanks
TS

A friend works for these people https://readscoffee.co.uk/ which sorts the coffee side of things

As for the teabags, Yorkshire or nothing.

They do small sample boxes of about 8 bags, not sure if you can buy them but an email will answer that quick enough and if you can they're probably exactly what you need.

For coffee find your local (to your property) roaster and give them a go?

If you're not going local you can't go far wrong with a Nespresso machine for a hospitality setting. It's dependable, looks fancy, you can easily portion what you feel is appropriate for a stay and so on.

We also said "no-one is likely to care."

If you need a box of 80 tea-bags that the great unwashed would consider 'decent' I'd suggest a box of PG or Tetley, anyone more particular than that will bring their own. Maybe supplement it with an assorted selection box?

I can't be alone in getting fed up with overly packaged portions of stuff, and tea and coffee making is a prime example. Get yourself some bulk bought and some mini kilners. If you want to celebrate your Yorkshire/artisanal/locally ground whatever put that in the welcome book.

I've got to be really honest, as someone who likes a nice AirBnB type place, and who likes a half decent cup of tea and coffee, you're really, really overthinking all this.

Bulk buy decent but normal teabags (Yorkshire, Twynings etc, maybe organic ones if you want to go that way), and decant them into small tins/jars. Same goes for the coffee. Most people will be more impressed with the jar then the contents.

As above, kilners for teabags. Keep packaging etc down. If only more teabags were compostable.
Coffee more difficult. So maybe not bother. Just put in more than a "starter pack" of teabags.

You know they don't even grow the tea in Yorkshire right? 😉

If you provide those tiny pots of UHT (blurgh!) then make sure you leave more than a couple. I need 4 per mug of tea

15 years in and we are still looking to improve hence upgrading our hospitality packs. Yorkshire Tea is a no - we're in the West Highland!! UHT milk is a no too - a fresh pint is what we have in the fridge for arrivals.

On it now so thanks for the suggestions.

Thank christ for that.

Here's an idea. Why not solicit ideas from your guests? "What would you have liked to see in your welcome pack?"

What do you about waste, out of interest? I've stayed at guest houses where they've thoughtfully provided bacon, cheese... great unless you're vegan or tee-total, then what happens to it?

As a self-catering customer I'd welcome a hospitality pack for "first night" requirements. I've driven 300 miles, I've got nothing with me and everything is closed, the ability to make a brew (tea, coffee, sugar, milk) and a round of toast (bread, butter) is a godsend. A beer, a glass of juice, a couple of biscuits, a bag of crisps, box of cornflakes, Brucie bonus. Most anything else I can deal with in the morning.

What I would love and what I hardly ever see is an essentials cupboard. Salt, pepper, vinegar, ketchup, mixed herbs, vegetable oil, kitchen foil, kitchen roll, washing up liquid... anything else that's really handy for cooking or for seasoning take-aways or otherwise surviving but that you'd only use small amounts of. Thanks to holidays I have three boxes of dishwasher tablets under the sink here and I don't have (and have never had) a dishwasher.

Oh, also, do you ask guests about dietary requirements? You could substitute wine and beer with Shloer and J2O for the non-drinkers, similarly non-dairy spread and oat/soya milk for vegans. Mixed party, offer both.

You're looking to improve? That's it right there - personalise the experience.

Hospitality pack is as you say for first night/day really to get you started. Simples. No beer/wine etc. Tea/coffee/cake/biscuits/milk.

Waste is all recycled as best we can. Food composted. 1100l recycling per week for cans/paper/plastic. Double that in the season. Glass - god knows how much. Takes an age to sort it.

We do leave some staples around but don’t leave opened goods - people hate it. All soap/hand wash/washing up liquid supplied. Shampoo. All sourced locally and topped up.

Components have been driven by talking to guests.
