Acer 5733. Left in on while downloading, came back & it's dead Jim. Tried a different power lead but zilch, nada, nowt. Could it be a number of things or what?

Have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds to ensure it is properly off and then restarting? Just a chance...

Try removing the battery and running from AC only

If you've tried two power supplies then it might be the power socket on the machine itself. We had that with an Asus where with a slight wiggle you could see the charge light come on again. Then it was just a new connector for a fiver from amazon and a million screws to remove

OK, try this. Remove the battery and the power cord. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Put the battery back in and try again...

No! The press and hold on the power button performs a power reset (it worked for me on a Dell laptop and looks like the same is true for Acer). I was doubtful when I was advised to try it also!

As leffeboy advised, it might be the power socket on the machine itself then.

Just a thought, did it suddenly get very dark earlier on today, and has stayed that way ever since?
