Staying in a caravan for my current work contract. There's a 12v circuit switch inside, CAR/OFF/VAN, plus a battery health meter. I think there's also some kind of 240v to 12v charger/converter. I'm hooked up to site electrics and all 240v sockets & equipment work. 12v only works if I have the switch set to VAN. I thought the convertor meant I could leave this in the OFF position?
The charger/convertor appears to be doing something. When not connected to site electric, battery health meter shows just into the green. When connected to site electric, battery health is 100% green.
Any ideas? Am I supposed to have the 12v switch set to VAN even when connected to site electric?
Leave the switch on VAN.
Off is just to isolate all your 12v stuff. Van means your 12v stuff is being powered via the leisure battery acting as a rectifier from the hooked-up charger which is how it should be.
Car usually means that you are using the "starter" battery in a motorhome/campervan as a back up because your leisure battery is borked.
Cheers. I was terrified of leaving it on and having the whole thing burst into flames while I sleep.
