We've been using an Acer Chromebook for about 5 years and it's been really great but the battery is starting to show its age and occasionally the display is black until I connect to the TV as a remote monitor - this then gets the screen working for some reason.

I really don't need a full laptop as all my documents are created online (Google Docs and Quickbooks Online) and I can access my desktop remotely if I need it. In fact part of the attraction of a new Chromebook is the ability to use Android apps.

I'm quite tempted by a Google Pixelbook now that they're available for £700 (£300 off) but it's still a lot of money considering I could get 80-90% of the performance and features for quite a lot less.  Anybody got one and care to share their thoughts?

Don't underestimate the value of a really nice screen.

as a fully paid up chromebook fanboi, even I dont quite understand the point of the pixel chromebook. Gilded taps in the Public Conveniences IMO.

If I were chucking money about at a new chromebook, Id be looking at the bigger brother of the one Im using now, the Asus Flip c302

But for the extra £200 you get a faster processor, double the storage, double the RAM and [probably] a better screen - so all in all a more future-proof  solution.

Oh, and pen input [rubs chin wondering if this is actually useful]

The extra storage would be beneficial if/when the rumoured ability to dual boot with Windows becomes a reality.

i have the C302ca running a M7 processor. It's got 4Gb RAM, and the normal 64Gb SSD

It's very good. I've never maxed out the memory, and come nowhere near to using all the SSD.

So one with 16gb ram, and 256Gb SSD might be a bit of overkill

I was looking at the 8Gb RAM and 128GB storage (i.e. the base) version.

still double what I have.

The whole point of chrome (i thought...) was so you didn't need the RAM/Memory Windows/Mac needs.

Having said that, why not if you can afford it. They're nice machines, and will cope with everything you can throw at it.

Watching 🙂

I have a Chromebook, use it a lot and rarely turn the proper computer on but it's only a cheap sub £200 one and it occasionally a little bit slow. Would go for something a bit higher spec next time.

Popped to see what was on offer today.  The C302 is certainly a very nice piece of kit with a great screen but there was nothing off it while the Pixelbook is slightly thinner, at least as well made and has a marginally nicer screen (but that's being really picky).  The reviews seem to swoon over the PB keyboard and trackpad also and the pen input might be fun.

Anyway, seeing as most places now seem to be out of stock at the special price I thought I'd grab one while I can - it's a business purchase anyway 🙂

Time will tell if it's worth the extra £200 over the C302.
