I've agreed to dip my tentative toe into the world of bikepacking, will be Spring next year so plenty of time to gather some basic kit together.

With all the PSAs and cheap gear around, is it worth me trying to get more bang for my very limited buck in these dark months?

I'll need a tent, mat and sleeping bag...the titanium spork can wait 😂

Oh, and my down jacket was bought from a car bootie for a fiver, so could keep an eye out for one of those as well...

Made glorious summer by this money-off spork.

Where is this bikepacking going to take place, and across what seasons?

Any budget restrictions?

Shropshire hills most likely, April/May I guess.

As cheap as possible, but decent enough for me not to be weighed down or uncomfortable

Budget down bag - 1kg weight, but should be toasty warm. https://www.ldmountaincentre.com/camping-c13/sleeping-c56/sleeping-bags-c91/sea-to-summit-treeline-tli-reg-p35579/

Or slightly less warm but synthetic and same weight:

Tent: seems lots of the Chinese tents are the budget option, and light.

I personally find an actual tent doesn't really work with bikepacking unless you start adding panniers or a rucksack - just too bulky. It's more of a bivvy bag/ tarp kind of adventure. Especially if you are putting stuff together on a budget.

We have been given some decent items of Restrap kit to give away, follow my shop Pedals Bike Care (pedals Edinburgh on Facebook) on Instagram, Nick our manager should be running it early next week. Just the usual comment and share sort of thing but I think the Restrap haul especially is pretty good!

I've just got one of these goretex bivvies for just over thirty quid, I see the price has gone up a bit post bf but still good piece of kit for the money
