Finally going to get one on my shoulder, based on a bicycle symbol like this:
[/img]
But I want to add something to it to symbolise how it's not a weight on my shoulder but it's actually 'lifting' in some way.
Can't imagine anything that might show this, any ideas folks?
Biscuits anyone?
Yes please but first let me be helpful
How about using the image from ET of it flying?
That's missing a chainstay and the head tube has broken off so don't copy that.
Red Bull logo.
/pours a drink
This is going to be good.
checks to see if trolling - history looks ok.
Those handlebars are all sort of wrong
Angel wings innit
Google image search for 'bike wings'

You should include a dolphin. And more rainbows.

I see binners has lost a bit of weight.
Say what you like, that's a hell of a cleavage.
Cleavage in your navel isn't a good thing though!
Love the singletrack website on the monitor . LOLz
Of course, STW also stands for......

Have you thought about getting it tattooed on your foot instead?
Severn Trent Water? Best way to show its lifting from your shoulder is perhaps don't put it there at all?
Awe great thread.
I've just sniffed a sip of whisky reading this, right through the back of my throat and up my nose..
Thanks.
😆
Moar Tats.
(Sorry its just a cutout print of your original bicycle with some drawing what I added but hopefully you get the idea.)
1st - The bike symbol is now rotated a bit so it doesn't feel so 'planted'. Upwards is uplifting.
The dolphin makes it feel weightless and also like rather than swimming next to freedom you are more like biking with freedom. Water also adds to the feeling of motion and weightlessness. I was aiming for a 'cleansing' and spiritual animus juxtaposed with the bike in a way that synergy is kind of achieved, but also a 'separateness' as mtb is often a reflective sport. Not hi viz reflective but psyche-o-logical. You can use the design for free or at least as inspiration no probs! Some good suggestions but the dolphin as a totem is the one to beat when we're talking 'lifting weight' off our shoulders!
It has to be asked, why has the bike got lands in it? Are you really sure you want a rather simplistic stencil of a bike permanently inked on your skin?
Try a Henna tattoo instead, just in case 😉
Look at as many tattoos as you can. Print out all the ones you like, write a note saying what you like about each one. Find yourself a good tattooist. Ask to see some of their work, if they can't provide any walk away! Give them all the pictures and tell them what you want the tattoo to represent then ask them to design you something If you stay with the design you've posted, make sure your tattooist can do good line work. I.E their lines are actually straight! Most of all don't rush into anything.
If you are going to have a tattoo then you need to be really, really sure about it. It will probably out last any relationship, fashion trend or hobby in your life.
Think, will I still like it or will it be in anyway relevant in 30 years time? If you can't think that far ahead then it maybe best to give the whole thing a miss.
*Edit
OP I forgot to say re the dolphin design - I first thought of having the dolphin balancing the bike on its nose but then a word kept jumping from my brain to the tip of my tongue, over and over. That word was cliché. So I really feel like my design has passed some pretty darn rigorous critique even before it 'leaped' (leapt?) onto the page.
As others have said - whatever you go with make sure it's relevant and rigorously appraised because one day you might get to be so old that those revealing muscle Tees are banned in nursing homes and therefore no-one except the wash-nurse gets to admire your tat. And that's the one person that we want to be admiring it! Irony eh...
Don't do it. Then we'll all be spared Katie Piper interviewing you in 5 years times about how you regret it and we won't see your skin blistering under a laser removal gizmo that will only lessen the intensity of the image but not actually get rid of it.
And if you get one don't worry u can always cover it up look its easy :-)
But seriously, rember a good tattoo is never cheap and cheap tattoo is never good.
That chain is entering the chainset at the wrong angle at the top. That would annoy me know end if I had it tattooed on me.
Surely, a real cyclist would've opted for big ring, small gear not the other way around 😀
That link is great sideshowdave . . . lol at scooterboy in 'Graham 58's pic 😆
How about this ? 😉

I no. However, as it would be on your back, you wouldn't be able to see it, so it wouldn't annoy you.
How about... "Powered by Unicorns" ?
Powerful, Uplifting.... Never Ageing 😉

bet you're glad you asked
Thinking again, salt water and bikes doesn't sit easily with me. I often come back to a design a few days later after letting it 'sit' awhile in the space around it. So although the dolphin is a powerful image I'm left thinking that biking is definitely more terra - less aqua. This suggest a 'fusion' of a lightweight terrestrial element. Let us take green grass. Imagine, if you will, the shape of a bicycle, yet not constructed of the heavier terrestrial elements, but the lightest of grass-cuttings.
Et voila!:
😆
I no. However, as it would be on your back, you wouldn't be able to see it, so it wouldn't annoy you
Who has stolen CFH's account?
Reed watt eye weir replaying too, Drac.
Phew!
The first thing you should do is upgrade your tat to a modern i mean the correct I mean the current wheelsize. You can be confident your tattoo will never be out of date if it's 650b+ semi fat with a boost hub, honest.
The only artistically minded person you should be consulting is your tattooer. Find someone whose art style you love, and who you trust, and collaborate with them to create your design.
However, as it would be on your back, you wouldn't be able to see it, so it wouldn't annoy you.
Exactly. You'd have to rely on other people to tell you how shit your tat is.
Ha damn....thought this might have dropped off the bottom by now!
It was a serious question...but may have put me off another year or two 😀
Way too entertaining to allow to drop from the 1st page. Liking the unicorn, but seems to be lacking non drive side crank.
£10 says OP goes through with it despite entire cycling community lambasting
*lykez
Getting a bit closer to the relegation zone for my liking!

To be serious for a moment, then this ^
Right, as you were, carry on!
😀

That might not be a bad idea, TBH; I debated with myself for the best part of fifteen-twenty years about what tattoo to get, continually changing my mind, before getting my first one.
Any other designs ?

PS No photoshoping BTW
I definitely want to ride one of those balloon bikes, but which one..
My problem with the back-chainset tattoo, is that it's in the lowest gear.
What's that saying about the wearer's riding prowess?
