Problem being.... I have a timesheet I need to fill in every month for work. The gaffer has sent me it via email so I can do it at home (because It's easier to go to the bottom of Challenger Deep than get on a computer at work). Except my laptop (all I can cope with) doesn't have Excel. I do have Apache Open Office which does some kind of conversion but won't let me input my start & finish times properly. (Which it needs to do so it can work out the hours Iv'e worked against what Iv'e got left to work this contractual year) If you know what I mean.

So apart from hanging around in a hot, airless, windowless office waiting till some gaffer has finished farting around organising bus runs, what's the alternative apart from paying £80 a year to use Excel once a month?

Questions & answers on a postcard please.

Google sheets might do it - online through Chrome Browser or Libre Office, which IMHO is better than open office.

Excel is free online.  https://office.live.com/start/Excel.aspx

LibreOffice is as near to a perfect free clone of MS Office as you'll get.   https://www.libreoffice.org/

Google Sheets as others have suggested.

Questions & answers on a postcard please.

Why is your answer not, "sorry boss, I don't have Excel"?  Work should provide the tools to do your job.

MS do a "HUP" Home User Programme, if work signs up to it then you could buy Office for a tenner.

Google sheets just rebuild the sheet so it works

That was my very 1st question Cougar, to which he replied, 'It's no problem using one of the computers in the office'.

In other words....

hanging around in a hot, airless, windowless office waiting till some gaffer has finished farting around organising bus runs,

It is after all, the local council.

Libreoffice portable here

Within Libreoffice you'll want to use Calc which is the Excel like app

You're being paid for it though right?  Is there a "sitting on my hands waiting for a computer to become available in order to complete my timesheets" column in the spreadsheet?

No It's not Cougar. I suppose I could claim time for hanging around waiting but me being me, I'd rather spend 5 mins at home doing it & not claim anything.

Plus, that would be encroaching on my down time.

Worth looking at the cost of an old version on cd? I use office 2007. Never have any problems.

Don't know the cost tbh.

Just need to make sure it would work with their newer version.
