I need an accountant who understands charities and can advise on both setting one up, and how I should be configuring my own status as an income-earner.

Are you that person? I suppose it would help if you were relatively local, but I suppose that Zoom could work for me if it works for you.

Sorry, wrong sort of Accountant. Might help others - are you going to be paid by the Charity or just a trustee, or even volunteer. ? Lots of stuff out there to read though.

Thanks for responding, @fossy.

I will be looking for advice on precisely how I should seek payment. Which is one of the reasons I need an accountant.

I have care of a charity, but I also take in a small income on the side. The question is: should I register as a sole trader, and so take two (very small) streams of income, or should I direct all that secondary stream into the charity and have the charity pay me?

In any case, i don’t expect you to answer; it’s just that these are the questions I’m facing.

I'd take two separate streams TBH - as this keeps your 'affairs' separate. Usual stuff about personal accounting for everything, so you can pay tax etc (but you know that).

If it's you 'delivering a contract' to a third party, and not under the Charity, then the third party money should come to you as you are 'contracted' to do the work.

It's very much like IR35 and other contracting laws.

There isn't a contract between the third party and the charity if you are doing the work - you aren't their employee.

Just my opinion and it's a way to keep your 'relationship' fully auditable.
