I’ve been on Xyzal (levocetirizene) for about 15 years. I was initially prescribed them for stress related urticaria.
My life stresses are very different to when I was prescribed them so I want to come off them. However, I seem to be suffering quite severe histamine rebound.
Has anyone else been through this? How long does it last? I currently feel awful with the worst itchy skin I’ve ever experienced. I could easily make myself bleed and still not satisfy the itch.
A quick Google says 3-7 days is normal but I’ve also seen that it can last up to 3 weeks… I’m currently 6 days in without any reduction in itching. Help..!!!
I had a period of time a few years ago taking them for really dreadful itching. I wasn't on them for anywhere near as long as you have been though. One thing I noticed is that I could actually control the itching by complete concentration on it. I just couldn't do anything else at the same time as without total focus it came back. I didn't just stop taking them I just slowly increased the time between taking them. Might just be an hour later one day than the previous one. Over time it became every other day and then maybe a couple of times a week and then just when I felt it might be starting again. I've had no reoccurrence since and it must be 10 years ago now.
That’s reassuring; I did taper slightly but not quite so regimented as you - I did every other day for a week then half a tablet for a few days without any major issues then went cold turkey. Wow..! This is far worse than the symptoms for which i was taking them.
