And you should only be taking antibotics if prescribed by a doctor or pharmacist because of antibiotic resistance.

The only times I've bought anti-bees online have been to treat sexually transmitted diseases. Lost count of the amount of times but it's been fine.

Good god no!

A significant percentage of drugs bought online without prescription are counterfeit containing either no or sub therapeutic levels of the active ingredients. Then the others that contain toxic ingredients that will actually do you harm.

Those that are genuine will likely be near or past their use by date and likely not to have been stored correctly which can adversely affect their effectiveness.

And that's before you consider whether you should be taking antibiotics in the first place.

So basically No.

Yeah why not. What could possibly go wrong.

Why on earth would you? Seriously?
You'll be up for a Darwin award you know. Just make sure you take some pics.

To expand on that,

You either need antibiotics or you don't. If you do a GP will prescribe them, if you don't then a) taking them won't make any difference to whatever condition you're taking them for and b) by taking unnecessary antibiotics you're increasing the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria evolving. And when that happens we're all screwed.

It's not even a cost saving. A prescription is, what, 8 quid? A quick google would suggest that online antibiotics will cost you three times that (though it also comes with a free pack of Viagra).

You can buy them in places like Spain just over the counter.

I thought everyone was at a level of education now to know you shouldn't take them for a cold?

If OP wants to pay me £100,000 I have 4 courses of powdered (I honestly do) anti biotic in the cupboard.

Why would you even want to?

Because you're travelling to a place where you have a high risk of stomach infection and limited access to medication.

That's a conversation to have with your GP before you travel then, shirley?

DrJ has a point *but* given the number of counterfeit meds apparently swilling about and given that antibiotics are prescription only in the UK (so no reputable pharmacy will sell you them without one) I really wouldn't.

Plus, I get to deal with the joys of pan-resistant sepsis on a not infrequent basis so taking them without seeking medical advice is wrong from an antibiotic stewardship POV.

I wondered how long it'll be till the doctors took time off from waxing their Lamborghinis to come and participate.
