But currently listening to Regina Spektor. Rather very good. Anyone else have any recommendations along the anti-folk lines?

Big Regina fan here too. What the hell is anti-folk? I suppose you could classify driving a hearse right through a screaming crowd as anti-folk though.....

Who-Gives-a-Folk ?

we referred to a little folk ensemble, made up of the landlords friend,  that used to play in a hotel I stayed at in the highlands when working there as “Folk Off” as it seemed to be the landlords way of clearing the bar of guests so they could have the place to themselves

From Wiki

Anti-folk is a music genre that arose in the 1980s in reaction to the remnants of the 1960s folk music scene, to mock the perceived seriousness of the time's mainstream music scene, with the intention to shock and protest. Artists of the anti-folk genre observe the "rules" of music, but then deliberately break them.

Who knew?

I'd not heard of the genre but a Spotify search brings up a couple of playlists and a few bands/artists I like are included in them, so I guess I like anti-folk.

Fun fact: my band was recorded by Dave from Lovely Eggs and I play in another band with someone who used to be in Angelica with Holly. Almost worthy of a Viz 'lame to fame'

Ah! Another expecting a new classification group. I visioned them being people without kids, who don’t own a car, buy everything secondhand and only drink coffee grown in their own back garbed and think everyone should do the same.

@BillMC - THat was my instant thought - I've never really classed anyone else as anti-folk other than The Moldy Peaches

Love 'em!

Would never have thought of Regina Spektor as antifolk. Not entirely sure what genre she is though... Off to one side in her own weirdly awesome one-second-it's-beautiful, next-second-it's-shouting-in-Russian-or-doing-a-fake-kazoo-solo section in HMV.

Never really know where the line between antifolk and folk punk is either. Probably it's a self identification thing, like, Derek Zanetti could be either but he identifies as a punk so he is. Maybe you have to be from New York.
