"Who?", I hear some of you ask. Well, if like me, your early years were filled with the adventure of a plucky village of Gauls, you should know of her as one of the main translators, and the creator of much of the glorious wit, wordplay, punning and linguistic humour in the Asterix series.
Didn't know who she was but I've appreciated her work for a long time - by Toutatis !

I had read a while ago that Goscinny and Uderzo thought the English translations were often much better written than the original French texts.

Loved all the Asterix books as a kid, and now I'm going through reading them with my son and I'm still finding new jokes and references in them. The translations themselves were works of genius (eg 'ad nauseum - sic).

The puns were often multi-layered, like the Roman Britons Sendervictorius and Appianglorius. Also, I've just found out, Anthea Bell was the sister of Martin Bell, the former BBC war correspondent and MP.
