It's getting pretty close to new laptop time, and I am looking for opinions.

My use is as follows:

87% MS Word
10% Internet Browser
3% Canva designing for upload

I might use it for more if it is faster and more functional than my current device, but the above is typical on my current laptop.

At the very least, I want something fast and enduring, and that might be able to let me do some sound and/or video editing, but I assume that's a huge leap forward, and I at least have a desktop for that, so I am not bothered if I am told that it is better just to buy a limited machine that does basic tasks well.

I have been spending between £350 and £450 on laptops for the last number of purchases, but if someone said that it was worth stretching to an Microsoft Surface Pro, as it would transform my life, I would be willing to listen and to save up for it.

So... what should I be thinking about? Any specific machines?

Thoroughly recommend a refurbished business-grade laptop, such as these Dell Latitude options from Stone refurb: https://www.stonerefurb.co.uk/laptops/windows-11-ready-laptops?manufacturer=5441

Build quality is so much better than consumer grade, they will last.

If you fancy treating yourself and prefer something that's well designed and well built, try a Dell XPS.

Genuinely can't fault mine. Not cheap, but it's been a bit of a game changer.

Built like a brick outhouse, looks new after being dragged to Uni in packed panniers, delightful keyboard (although I use a separate keyboard at home, the built in one is fine for touch typing), amazing, accurate display (didn't bother with the 4k) which makes photo editing much simpler even without calibration and very pleasant speakers, even for a HiFi snob.

The touch pad is huge and very intuitive and it has plenty of ports.

I honestly can't fault it.
Sadly, they have gone up in price by about 25% recently but discounts are available, I managed to stack an NHS and student discount, saving me nearly 20% on the website price.

Plays all the latest games at reasonable frame rates too, if that matters.

Basically, it just gets on with anything I ask it to do and I don't have to worry about it breaking or not being up to the task.
No quirks, no fuss.

You still up for this online discussion about the origins and implications of faith btw? I was really looking forward to that.

Best wishes,
Pete.
