I was looking at a Merc Vito (that actually means "ceeyounextuesday" in Finnish!) this afternoon, 55k on an 06 plate for about four and a half (the TD option), I'm very very tempted!

Too much money. Thats over £7.5k all in. I've just sold a 56 plate new shape, new engine renault trafic with FSH, 1 years warranty left, just serviced and full tax, 28k on the clock for 6500 inc vat.

Have a look at trafic/vivaro if you've not already (all these vans are made in the same factory) and check prices, that's not a great deal.

Oh and mr nutt. rust rust rust rust rust. How long do you plan to keep it? £4.5k for that sounds like a good deal at least.

from what I've researched over last few weeks it is a good deal - I've looked at vivaro/traffic/primastar and its £1000 cheaper than anything similar I've seen

No you don't. Overhyped IMO.

I also think thats a reasonable deal.

I've got an 03 Vivaro. The only thing I've had a couple of times is the "phantom airbag fault warning light." (Renault electrics) Just make sure you have the special allen key for unlocking the spare wheel.

I have seen these vans being sold from £8000+vat nearly new(roughly 2000 miles on the clock).

Well,

I got mine for 4 grand with 40,000 on the clock, my dads one has done 240,000 without problem. They retain their value because they go on and on, and don't rust like th Vito. It's comfy and fast, not boxy but plenty of space inside for 3-4 bikes plus 3 passengers comfortably

Oh, and I'm selling the personalised plate it came with for a grand 😆

Get your self a Ford Transit pickup - you can collect scrap on route to your destination. Make some extra money.

The only thing I would say is on the test drive listen very hard to any gearbox noises or noises from wheel bearings. Ideally if u can start it from cold and see if you can get all the gears easily while not moving. The gear linkages play up. I have an 04 Vivaro and it was the Achilles heal of that year. Not sure if the newer ones are any better. Apart from that they are cracking vans, very quick and very economical if kept to about 70-75 on the motorway. I can get 45 mpg out of it in normal driving.

Standard crew van Mark - drivers and double bench up front, 3 seats behind. Big bulkhead then room in back for lots of biking/camping/kids kit!

VW's are lovely - but you pay a premium.

Too much "Scene Tax" with the transporters for my liking. Yes they're good, but they're not good to the tune of a grand or two more than the competition i.e. Transits, Vivaros/Primastars/Traffics etc, etc.

I like that clink - much better value than out Touran....

What sort of mpg do you get out of them - and what kind of service costs?
