seemms theres a few scalextric fans here so thought id ask for their wisdom!

Whats the best cars for young (6&10yrs) kids? The scalextric 'Start' range seems pretty crash resistant?

thanks

START cars are bombproof but don’t look that great. Scalextric also do “high impact” ones that have painted-in windows and less bits that will snap off.

My lad plays with his (my) SCX cars without too many mishaps. We’ve lost a couple of mirrors and aerials and some have needed a bit of gluing. The good thing about SCX is that they aren’t too fast and the magnates are adjustable so you can increase or decrease the level of grip. Carrera cars seem pretty tough too. Also, SCX and Carrera are reasonably cheap.

The best way to avoid breakages that I have found is to put cushions against the skirting boards / chair legs at accident black spots. Also put any cars that are not being used out of the way so they don’t get stood on.

Old Scalextric cars from “back in the day” are universally, in my experience, rubbish. I’ve got some Escort Cosworths that are capable of falling over whilst they are stationary :-/

My 2 have a microscaletxtric, the track is brittle and the cars pickups need constant fettling / defluffing. Could do with speed limiter type things aswell, without them knowing they were fitted 👿
