I posted an item valued at £65 with royal mail, when i was in the post office the cashier asked me the parcel contents and it value, i told him what it was and the correct value, i pays my money and leave. It would now appear that the item has gone missing in the postal service. I have waited the 15 working days required for an item to be classed as lost, and have refunded the buyer. After contacting royal mail they are saying i am only eligible for compensation of £20 as that is all the item was covered for under standard post.
Where do i stand with getting my full amount as the post office cashier was fully aware of the items value and sent it using standard post.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and now realised i should have had the item signed for or recorded etc but as the cashier did not mention purchasing extra insurance i assumed the full value was covered.
If you have not insured it to the amount of £65 then you only get the standard compensation of whatever amount that is. Telling them the value is useless unless you insure it then send via registered mail/parcel.
The person should explain to you that in the event of claim there should be £20 only without insurance. 😯
Sorry to hear that. But you're stuffed. Don't rely on the counter staff to be right - they don't give a tinkers' toss. If your package is worth £65, you have to say, "I'd like to insure this package for £65, please".
Like i said hindsight is a wonderful thing i honestly didn't know the standard compensation value was £20, ah well lesson learnt, the more annoying thing is i honestly believe the buyer has received the item but i have no way of proving it. No correspondence from him just a sudden Paypal dispute saying his item hadn't arrived
Odd, they are usually up selling like its going out of fashion.
It was sold on pinkbike so am hoping the buyer may slip up and upload a picture with the part fitted to his bike
