Mrs OTS fancies Sweden and I'm amenable. We can get cheap flights to Copenhagen (yes I know!) and get across to Malmo from there. As a bit of a wallander fan, I'm thinking of heading towards Ystad and then up the cost from there, but I'm open to suggestions across the country.
The sticking point is likely to be a grumpy 15 year old who needs to be entertained if possible.
Suggestions and itineraries?
Ta

From cph look at renting a car from Malmo as I think it's cheaper than renting in Denmark. Two ideas spread ngvti mind - Gotland and Söderåsen. Other than that - ferry from Ystad to Bornholm?

If heading up the coast then worth a day or two for nice beaches and a little mtb at Angelholm / Bastad (pronounced more like Bostad).

We stayed in their garden cabin which was really nice https://housewithaview.weebly.com

Continuing north Gothenburg has a theme park and city stuff plus a military plane museum in a cave bunker. Bohuslan coast is nice. Dalsland area for driving gravel roads at dusk looking for Elk.

Bastad is a lovely seaside town with holiday homes in the pine woods. I spent a couple of summers there as a teenager with Swedish exchange family. Loved it.

up the cost from there

Sounds about right 🙂

We also went to Angelholm area - lovely beaches with dunes, warm shallow sea, nice campsites.

Also visited this 'independent nation' nearby. Not signposted for health and safety/liability reasons, but easy enough to find.

Dozens of rickety towers created by bonkers artist. Enter at your own risk!

Well, July, everyone is on holiday.  So campsites and holiday stuff will be busy. If I was south i’d Kayak off the west coast, ferries around Gothenburg etc. Watch out for the jellyfish

Otherwise head north where i am for mountains and MTB. We are having an enduro in my home town

then its Åre bike week

Another wave from Sweden!!

July is a good time to visit as it should be warm. If you fancy something a little different, there are a couple of companies that run kayaking tours around the Archipelago (around Stockholm) which could take up three+ days. You get dropped off, then call them to get picked up from wherever. Camping is not a problem, just pick a place you like and don't trash the place.

Östersund is a good shout (I am biased, I have friends there), but it's more a flight than a drive if you are coming into the country down Malmö way. Same with a lot of places; Sweden is big.

Gotland is maybe worth a look if you like sheep and Goteborg's new wind tunnel should be open then if you want to try indoor skydiving. Other than that, I'd echo the advice to head to Åre and the mountains. It's lovely up that way.

If you reach the capital, drop me a line. I'm happy to meet up for a coffee if I am not down in Skåne.

Hehehehe. That was the plan, but I have so far failed to buy a ticket for it. Apparently getting a last minute cancellation place is cheaper (according to a Vasaloppet competitor).

Let me know when you are about though. They have some decent (but short) trails out near me in Norra Djurgården that we can hit.

Gothenburg has miles of really good trails within 10 minutes ride of the city centre if you make it up that far. mtbstore.se are super friendly and would give you some tips (or could join their Wednesday night ride)

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/denmark-sweden-germany-campsites-or-places-to-visit-euro-road-trip/ - my thread from last year. The canoeing we did in the lake district area was superb, and we really liked Soderasen too.

Shameless plug...my brother drives boats out of some of those small harbours to look for porpoises (Tumlers) and there is also sea kyaking, paddle boarding, and fat bike hire at that end of the peninsula. Lovely part of the world. don't forget you can head across the straits to helsingor and do Hamlets castle, and the maritime museum there is also supposed to be good

You can also read about the history of that castle and how the treacherous Danes kept invading and stealing it back from the poor Swedes. There's also a lot of history about how the Swedes kept paying for it as a ransom, why I do not know.
