Very sad. He always seemed such a genuine and witty man with an air of devilment about him.

Cancer really is a ****

Always liked his dry wit and as above, he always looked like he was having fun. He was on the breakfast news on the bbc not long ago and looked fine and healthy. Must have been very quick.

Very sad. I used to enjoy his radio show in particular. One of the longest careers in the business.
He always looked on the bright side, and I thought he had a great time on his recent programme travelling and eating around the UK.
RIP Terry Wogan.

Remember watching his chat show as a young kid with fondness. In later years found him slightly irritating, but odd to think we won't see his face on tv again.

I always remember Kenny Everret bending his microphone in Blankety Blank. 77, I thought he was older than that as he'd been around so long.

A great personality, still entertaining on radio 2. I used to love watching Wogan, some fantastic interviews

RIP Sir Terry.

I can only echo what has already been said, another from my childhood gone. My first memory of Sir Terry was on Blankety Blank with his stick microphone.

Just got Sky news on the the presenter said that most of the nation would consider Sir Terry like having a friend in the room if he was on TV or the Radio, I agree with that.

Been a rubbish year with loosing people from my younger days. I had Absolute 80's on the other day and it was like " he's gone, she's gone......" Make you realise how many people have gone over a few years.

A lot of my favourite TV personalities form my childhood have gone or have turned out to be weirdos.......

A passionate man who loved the BBC and quite obviously hated the decision makers, especially those who thought closing telly-centre down was a good idea. Good on you Sir Terry - RIP.

He always seemed to be one of the blokes you'd like a Pint with, not that he'd probably drink much but hey, you certainly would be entertained all night long.

An institution in his own lunchtime.
A stalwart of many a good cause.
An air of calm when all around seemed to turn crazy around him.
You only ever saw him smiling.
A sad loss.

Saw him on a flight to Spain. On the UK side he was escorted through the airport by officials of Heathrow. On the Spanish side he chatted with the Spanish guy pushing his wife's wheelchair. Then tipped him nicely. Just from what I saw he seemed a nice bloke and not at all a primo uomo.

wasn't he taken off Eurovision because of the mickey taking he used to do? some of the other broadcasters were getting upset as they take it seriously.

Condolences to his family

So long Terry.

Some don't believe you are truly dead until all ripples caused by your existence have gone as well. With him (especially with SaxonRider's help), this will be some time.

RIP

Weekday mornings before breakfast TV, Terry Wogan's voice was the introduction to the day. Warm and humorous - he made even grim 1970's school mornings seem OK.

I hope he and Kenny Everett are fighting over a microphone somewhere and Kenny is bending it in half!

Not many great Limerickmen left - Harris, Wogan... 🙁

I'll keep flying the flag. 😀

Nah seriously, Eurovision commentaries were legendary and nobody has touched them. He was reviled in Ireland for a while - perhaps people saw through the whole devilish Oirish shtick he had going on, but not much in later life. Sad to see him go.

Can remember driving to work when he played some appalling piece of music. It finished, there was a long pause and all he said was, "I'm going to have a headache all day now".

Will miss him.

Always came across as warm, friendly and approachable unlike so many other 'celebs'. A true entertainer who seemed to genuinely like talking to people. A sad loss.

Sad day. I got the feeling something must be seriousoy wrong fpr him to miss Children in Need. Delighted he was knighted in recognition of his huge success. Thenway he could make Eurovision seem vaguely interesting was genius.

RIP

Apparently the only celeb John Peel invited to his wedding. Speaks volumes.

Not just celebs passing away. Nearly everyone in my road has lost a parent in the last couple of months, myself included. WTF is going on ?

Been listening to BBC audio about Douglas Adams, and various bits were interviews by Terry, I was thoroughly enjoying them, remembering his talk show. So sad, to come back and find this news. Yet another sad passing of a part of my childhood, sympathies to his family and friends

He stood out for being someone who worked in the media but didn't have a bad bone in his body.
Just read the BBC bio, which seemed a little negative to me. He was too good for the monster the Beeb became over the years, RIP Terry.

Some of his eurovision quips

"She had a nasty shock before she came on stage" - Norway, 1987
"The lady's poured into something black" - Netherlands, 1993
"Here he is - the beard from Basel" - Switzerland, 1994
"That was song 11. There's only about 300 more to go" - Croatia, 1995
"Cruella de Vil sings for France" - France, 1999
"A defined, well-set, lump of a woman," - Malta, 2005

Have to admit, I was expecting him to be older.

A true professional at what he did, never seemed to have an ego with it. A real shame. But he had a great life doing what he seemed to love.

And - don't forget - he had more banking qualifications than the heads of any of the big banks when the recession hit! 😕

Very sad when I saw it as a headline on Sky and BBC News on my pad first thing this morning. His was just about the only show I could listen to on R2, helped by the team he had working with him to bounce stuff off of.
RIP Sir Terence of Wogan. 🙁

He was a friend of my dads, I used to see him quite a lot and he was the most genuinely lovely guy, as many have said a true legend of our generation. I know my Dad spoke very fondly and in his final days terry came to see him at quite some disruption to his schedule, but as he said at the time, that's what you do. A few tears from my mum today on this mainly as she's the same age and I think she is getting aware of her age. I also am in possession of a blanket blank chequebook and pen !

I had a Terry "moment".
In Covent Garden,he was sitting on a bench in Neals Yard.
He clocked that I had clocked him.
He lit a mahoosive Cuban,and give me a wink. I winked back . 🙂
RIP Terry.

He came into a fringe venue I was working in, apparently purely to heckle Bob Monkhouse, then ****ed off laughing like a nutter. Just seemed to love his life basically.

(also in all my life I've only ever had 2 people genuinely say "Do you know who I am". But with Wogan, when I said course I do (and kind of horified/disappointed), he said "Damn it. Could you let me in anyway?". Simple joke, delivered like a nuclear bomb.)

His Eurovision commentary was at times hilarious.
I also liked the way he'd refer to his wife as 'The current Mrs Wogan' even though they'd been married for decades.

RIP - sadly missed.
