Google Nest router and 1 puck. Router connected via cable to VM Hub 3 which is situated upstairs, wifi switched off on Hub 3. I can get 300 Mpbs upstairs. 130 downstairs front of house with puck switched off but only 20 when puck is on. Down stairs back of house no wifi if puck off but 20 with puck on. Is it just a crap system or is there anything I can do to speed up the puck signal?

Perhaps the puck is struggling to communicate with the master (but our other test device is not). You may have a quick connection to the puck but poor connection between puck and master. Try different locations and see what happens.

If the puck is one of the small ones the download speed is only about 80Mbps compared to 300 ish for the full router.  The puck will also use up to 1/2 of the total bandwidth going in to the main google router.

Depending on distance, your devices may pick up the slower "puck" due to the stronger signal.

Three fixes:

  1. Try moving the puck closer to the router to improve speed
  2. Check in the google app whether devices are connecting to the router or the puck
  3. Consider springing for another full router and replace the puck

Have you run a network check in Google home to see what the connection between the puck and the router is like?

I have the original Google Mesh system and it's been faultless.
