What's this about. 2 rides in a row it's done this

Switch it on, it says "You are near the start, do you want to begin?" (or words to that effect), so I tap Yes and it starts showing me the route and records the ride. However at the top, all the way round it's got this odd turn right bar showing.
Anyone tell me why?
I don't have a Garmin, so I'm guessing... The "on the fly" climbing feature?
I think they ask if you want to "navigate to the start", so if you tap yes it'll give you directions to the start point of the route.
They ask if you want to navigate to start if you're not at the start, but I'm starting at the start and it says 'do you want to start" so I say yes and start.
You must have a route selected. Try deleting the route amd see what happens.
It’s an indication that it’s paused automatically because no movement is detected.
Chances are you’ve tried to start the ride without a solid GPS fix. It knows you’re near the beginning so offers to route you there, but doesn’t have a fix of sufficient quality to detect movement.
It's only paused in the pic cos I can't take photos of it while I'm riding 😀
At the start I waited for the %age thing to get to 100% so the route was loaded.
The rest of the ride it's showing me the route - selected from saved routes (and at the end it has recorded it properly). It's just that turn right in 1 mile bar that is the issue.

Surely if I deleted it before I started I wouldn't have anything to follow?
Garmin software is the weirdest shite. They need to get on the AI bandwagon!
Oh, right. My Edge 1000 used to fall over when navigating and would do a similar thing. The Edge 530 doesn't, so it's been fixed in newer versions. You could try (in the options for this particular route) turning off "Show course points". Since the Garmin calculates its own route you end up with a conflict sometimes if you use a route from RideWithGPS or similar which also has cue points in it.
As above I expect it's asking if you want to navigate to the start of the route, so if you actually know how to get there hit the 'No' response. If you ignore the route instruction then (sometimes) it leaves the last turn instruction on the screen which is why that 'turn right' instruction keeps showing. Assume you're not getting any other navigation instructions while you're riding the route, just the line on the screen?

Nope, as I said in first post - it says "you're at the start, do you want to start?" - if you're not at the start of the route you select it asks if you want to navigate to the start.

Exactly, just that right arrow showing all the way round - even though the blue line is showing me the route I've selected (and it says "off course" if a stray a cm or 2 from the exact line on the map - so it knows I'm following the route!)
Ah OK - as I mentioned, sometimes I get stuck with a turn notification when I'm riding a route. Stopping and restarting the guidance usually sorts it if needed.
What model? Could be a bug… are you on the latest firmware? Tried rebooting it?

Sounds like a plan. Christ knows what it'll do to the guidance if you stop and start in the middle of a rout though "Do you want to start at the beginning?" "no" "Do you want to navigate to the start?" NO! Just continue!
"Why have you thrown me in a bush?"
Its an Edge Explore - I let it do its 4 hour map and firmware updates on my laptop before the ride in the photo.
Update! Last couple of rides it's been fine. Guiding me as it should. Musta been a glitch or something wrong with the 2 previous routes. (Or me being a div 😛 )
Glad you got it sorted. Can I ask a question about Garmin edge (830). If I upload a route that I plan to do over 2 days, but want to turn the GPS off overnight to save batteries, should the route be uploaded to the gps as 2 separate routes to follow (1 per day), or will it still work if I upload the whole route, ride day 1. Stop GPS overnight and begin ride in the morning again. Will the GPS keep trying to send me to the beginning of day 1, or will it just continue following the ride based on me being approx half way round?

Occasionally it gets stuck on a turn - flipping between screens will sometimes reset it but it's basically a software thing.

Upload as 2 routes, Day 1 and Day 2. Save Day 1 when you finish, turn Garmin off, recharge etc. Start of Day 2, make sure the start point is as near as possible to the end point then when you've saved Day 2 at the end of the ride, you can combine them in something like gpsies.org and upload to Strava as one file.
Having it as one route for 2 days will sometimes lead to issues with it recalculating, they don't like big files. Sometimes on very long day rides, I break the route down into 3 or 4 pieces of 100km or so each just to avoid the unit doing too much recalculating. Ride first half, it says route complete, then I just load the second half and get it to navigate that and so on.
